  • Patch 2 Released to Test

    Patch 2 has been released to MS for testing in all languages. The auto-update and the stand-alone patches will be released simultaneously. My guess is that it will be about 1 week before the patch is live but that is STRICTLY a guess. We will keep you posted.

    Some of the changes/fixes include:

    * MP Lag seems to be fixed even for severe clock drift. By the way, 8-player games over actual 56k modems have worked fine in our tests. The major MP lag issue was not related to network bandwidth.

    * The major issues with hosting behind a NAT have been fixed.

    * MP ratings are fixed. Ratings will be reset as the current ones are not meaningful.

    * CtW crash related to 16-bit vs 32-bit color on battle loading has been fixed.

    * GameSpy Arcade and the in-game matchmaking services are now compatible.

    * You can now check for updates without going into GameSpy.

    * Chat message are now white with only the player name colored.

    * Armageddon does not happen in "Sandbox" mode (1-player).

    * Additional anti-cheat protection.

    * Much better support for pre-prelease patch testing.

    * Fixed ping-sorting for in-game matchmaking.

    * Added a semi-documented way of adjusting the colors as requested by some colorblind players. Thanks to Ike for putting it in and providing a sample set of colors.

    Items on the semi-immediate horizon:

    * Optional auto-matchmaking for MP games. As with all things, suggestions are welcome here.

    * MP save games.

    * Cross-version compatibility for recorded games. Hold onto your favorite games.

    * In-game support for MODs, including MP.

    * Support for MP scenarios and scripts.

    * Additional setup options possible such as the ability to play nuke-free games.

    * Observer-mode support for GameSpy.

            Very good stuff, Jason. It's good to see that you're paying attention to the MP community, although I'm still to strt my regular battles online here. Great to see the GameSpy fixes...

            As for additional setup options... no Nukes and no Armaggedon are very easy to implement. Some people could use those...

            Currently though, I am interested in better mod support, maybe stuff like the ability for players to download modded rules files from other players online, sort of how Age of Mythology does it when you need a file from someone else.

              does that mean there is a minimum wait of another week until we can finally play mp games ?

              could you please give more details what the reason for the mp lag was, is it possible to fix this by doing changes to the system ?

                Jason said that once, there was an issue with power supply and CPU clock on some systems, causing the system clock to go quite seriously off-sync, which caused terrible lag.

                  Excuse me but...

                  ...how about saving the game in Tutorial mode? I need to get back to work, lunch hour is over , and there is no interface for me to click on and save it, neither the Alt-S combo works!
