I really enjoy the Chinese, so far. The French are very nice as well, as are the Bantu.

Why do you like the Chinese and French?

The Chinese get to create villagers instantly, which I think is a huge advantage, as well as some other econ bonuses. All of their cities start out as Large Cities.

The French have the supply wagon that repairs units in the field as well as eliminating attrition, which is very nice. They also get a free general with each fort and fortification improvements.

france also gets a free supply wagon with each siege factory.

i've been playing Random a lot recently, and somehow i got Bantu 3 times in a row. they're a pretty awesome civ. raised pop limits, faster moving barracks troops, an extra city, bueno.

maya are good for defensive purposes.

i used to like china a lot, but their ability is only good if you have a strong enough economy for it. still pretty interesting.

i'll say bantu / france / egypt right now.

Everytime I've tried China I've always had a huge point lead in the early game, due to the instant citizens. However I want to point out another good one - the Inca. Every miner generates 10 wealth in addition to the usual metal, and their wealth commerce cap is 33% higher than normal. Wealth is the most versatile resource, since you can easily exchange it for whatever you need at the market. The Inca don't have any particular offensive or defensive advantages, certainly nothing to rush with, but they can be adapted to almost any strategy and do well.
Firaxis - please make an updated version of Colonization! That game was the best, even if it was a little un-PC.

I'd say most of the nations are good, and there isn't one best one

Mostly I have played with France and Britain.

France's healing supply wagons allow your troops to survive prolonged incursions into enemy territory longer.

Also, the timber bonus helps you to get buildings up quicker.

Britain's double taxation and increased commerce cap give it one of the best economies, and certainly the most raw economic power.

I like the Japanese and British

I like the Japanese because of their Ability to plunder and not yield any plundered wealth. Also, they have great SpecialUnits right until the end of the medieval age. The British are also equally my favorite and maybe even more so because of their SpecialUnits and because of their abilities. I really wish they had included India or that they include India in an expansion. They have a wonder but not the Civ (Taj mahal) and I am of Indian origin so maybe i'm a little biased. I feel they should have the power of instant build scholars and cheap scholars (today they have the largest number of college level educated professionals) and Spec.Units are obvious. A Elephant type unit, a Ghurka for modern times Commando (include Nepal with India), etc.

I have been enjoying playing the Koreans and the Greeks.

Regarding the Koreans, I love the free citizens with each city. Also, starting the game with a temple is quite nice.

As for the Greeks, they are probably not the best civ to play in multiplayer, but in sp, I always seem to be way ahead in tech than the computer. The main benefit is that Library research is faster. The fact that you start out with a University and can build them right away is not that much of a factor for me, as I usually only build a scholar or two before you would be able to build them anyway.

I'm a newbie, but I have been playing the Germans and find them a very strong civilization; they have economic advantages and their military rocks, especially in the later part of the game.

Nothing like taking on a generic tank with a Tiger or Leopard. Kaboom!

I do think that the civs are pretty well balanced and that basicaly the better you are, the better your chances.

Depends on what style you play!

I like to advance quickly to get better units compared to the opposition I'm faced with! My choice for to achieve that goal is the Chinese Nation!!!

-20% cheaper library = more resources spendable on other things = faster in age advancement

-instant buildtime civ's/merch's/caravan's(no not car's ) = advantage in the beginning, because resource gathering is started faster!

-First gunpowder unit, age before gunpowder age, cheap/fast to produce - up till modern age, who wouldn't want that?
Considering u advance faster in ages U r sometimes 2 ages ahead with gunpowder units!!!

-large cities = better defence (I geuss )

All in All wel rounded nation, like the russians, best suited do do the job for ME, perhaps not for others!

PS: the fact that the chinese in AoK(AoE2) had practically the same advantages (tech cheaper each age, chokuno's(ultra fast fire archer unit) and that they were my fav race has nothing to do whatsoever with my choice

I'm starting to like the Koreans. They get a free temple and civillian at the start. Their second city gets 3 free civillians and any city afterwards get 5 free civilians.

You have to keep track of your pop limit as you don't get the freebies if your maxed out. But the instant work force is great for putting up border cities as they can quickly get up military buildings.

The free temple upgrades are nice and armed civillan upgrades are nice. I tend to forget about those side upgrade techs that are not in barracks/stable/factory.

The Koreans are great for the early attacker type game with the best age 2 & 3 seige units, but become rather ordinary after gunpowder.

Wow, I guess I'm the only one who likes playing Russian so far. The attrition feature is one thing that really interested me in RoN, so I've been favoring the civ with attrition bonuses. They also have a good improved line of light cav - fast and cheap.
