    I'll pose this question.

Does it really matter what civs are in the game?

I'm going to pick the civ that has the bonuses that closely match my style of play. Eventually I'll end up trying them all out.
Maybe I am in the minority here, but there are countries (civilizations if you like) that I have no interest in playing. Regardless of their abilities in game. And, I *want* to play as my own, despite their abilities in game (F15 in Civ3 was a POS UU but I was the Americans in every game I ever played).

edit: To clarify, in a game like Medieval: Total War I had no problems with no USA to play and there were a few sides I played happily. But in the case of RON, it already takes plenty of liberties with the included civs regarding historical accuracy. There was no good reason to keep the US out of the game. It must have been done for political reasons.

i think the approach RoN is taking as far as civ choices is a mix of both historical importance and impact, PLUS anthropological origins. and i think this is a good mix.
      Are you down with ODV?

Remember that the Mongols who ruled Persia (the Ilkhanate iirc) and those that ruled what became Russia (the Golden Horde) were Moslem. A minority of them were Nestorian Christian. While the greater portion of Mongols dwelling in Mongolia might have been Buddhist or Animist they were politically insignificant once the Han Chinese Ming replaced the Mongol Yuan dynasty. Those with power were the Moslem Mongols of the Golden Horde. Maybe a dual Asian/Middle Eastern Civilization?

The Arabs should definitely be in, more than any other Asian or African nation but Indians, Persians and Chineese.

they did not come into contact with anyone except for when the spanish came in and killed everyone.
they should reflect reality and be useless, the spanish just slaughtered them with muskets while they charged them with swords made out of stones and bamboo...
Well we're not trying to match what happened in history, or else saying "America" should be a civilization has some merit (it does not). We're taking the civilizations that did exist and putting them against eachother. By the same token I could say the Spanish shouldn't be allowed in the game because a couple civilizations in America were far more advanced for a very long stretch of history, they just didn't happen to invade Europe during that time. I must say it'd be quite interesting to know what the result would have been.

Maybe we should allow the Americans, but just not let you build anything until about the gun powder age

Are you saying there were Romans in 4000 BC? What about Russians? Dutch? Japanese? Persians? Ottomans? Carthaginians? etc.

I thought it is just a coincidence that Pyramids have been found in Egypt, Central America, and even off the coast of Japan.

Sorry, may I ask You. Maltaneese is an Arab dialect, at least according to some. Is it taught this way in Malta, or do You think it is something that remained after the Carthaginians or whatever? How are Maltan relations with the Arab world?

This is not exactly true. It is true that the Mayan civilization reached its peak some thousand years before the arrival of the Spainish, however, the Mayan people lived on and fiercely resisted Spainish invasion. Indigenous Maya lived on in Central America.
