I'd be interested. Just dusted off my old MooII disk.

That's the thing about MoO2 -- no matter how many games I play, I always end up going back to MoO2 for a game or two.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

While I don't agree with the die-hard Civ2ers who claim Civ3 is inferior to Civ2, I do feel that in MoO's case MoO2 is superior to MoO3. Perhaps a MoO2 Democracy Game will burst a MoO2 Revival.

I agree there are too few PPl for Demo. Succesion would be nice though.

For a MoO 2 Demo Game we would have a President who played the game of course.

              Other potentials:

              Planetary Governors or System Governors?
Minister of Technology to set the tech being researched?
              Minster of Foreign Affairs?

Succession is nice but it would probably be quicker in the long run to do leader/cabinet. Just set time limits for any vote for direction and let the leader run the game from their PC. But then I've never participated in a DG so I may be stupid.

There could be one or more Military ministers to lead the battles after the turns. Then the best result can be chosen by the president. They should be more in order the game to be able to run even if a minister is missing.
There should be orders for them when attacking, like : bomb the planet xxx or invade the planet xxx, or bomb and then invade; fight offensively or fight defensively and run if necessary.

Other aspect is the ship design - who will do it? The military ministers may have to do this too and then present the new designs for voting. Everyone else could suggest a new design along with theirs. When a new design is ordered, then its type should be known (beam, missile, carrier or assault), its size and if it should be offensive or defensive.
Against stupidity the very gods themselves contend in vain.

We could have people roleplay Arms Companies and submit their ship designs to the communtiy then we debate over which ones we want.

"Your absolutely wrong, what the military needs right now are 17 more Ghengis Specials............"

I like having multiple designs submitted like Arms Companies. It would give people who are not in government more of a chance to participate.

Seriously, I hope this takes off, I'm starting to think this sounds like a lot of fun.

Actually, we could end up with a blended approach. In one of the succession games I’m playing there is a lot of side commentary and advice going on -- almost as much as there would be with a demo game.

In any case, let’s assume that some of us will carry through and do one or the other (or a blended option).

We could set up a poll for our starting choices --

                          Level of difficulty?
                          Map size?

                          and Customization of race?

For the Customization of Race, we may definitely want to go the poll route -- I usually take one major minus and a couple of minor ones -- do we want to have multiple minors instead? (Lately I’ve been using low grav, & then a food minus with Uni in mind.)

For the pluses -- do we want to use up the entire slots?

Second question for the pluses -- I’d like to recommend that we go with choosing the government first with the de facto notion of choosing the “theme” (i.e. Uni = production) at the same time. I’m going with vmxa1’s (and other’s) notions that it is better to “specialize” and gain the extra benefits than to “generalize”. Once that step is taken, then we can augment the second major plus & finally fill out the rest of the advantages. for me (still with 1.2) I would go with Uni, creative & sub, and then flesh out the last point or two with improving my home planet.

Final decision -- I’m assuming that we’re going with MOO2, version 1.31 (and I have yet to install the upgrade patch that has been posted) -- but if I started a game with 1.2, would it be playable by a succeeding player?
Those with lower expectations face fewer disappointments

I'm not really interested in a sucession game, I had planned on playing an arms company and possibly running for office every now and then.

If we did decide to start a Democracy Game we could get a write up posted on Apolyton's main page to increase awareness.

us 1.31 people probably couldn't play. also creative got raised in 1.31, but my game has it back to 6 points since I don't think its worth 6(and rarely pick it in any event).

and yea, there will be massive fist fights over pick choices :P

Why can't everyone upgrade to 1.31?
