The retail price in some cases (MoO3 being one of them) does not have much to do with the 'actual' (as opposed to 'official') value of a product. If something is crappy and word has spread, and it is sold in a great many instances for much less than the retail price, be it through ebay or whatever other means, that lesser price describes the actual value.
If its the other way round, something is extremely good and sold out in stores, and is sold for a price higher than retail in many instances, that higher price describes the actual value.
Imo this is not economic 101 (being a student what would I know of economics
), but common sense.
