In my current game with the Nommo, I have found some new, interesting things.

    1) Early in the game, I received some Plant people into my civilization, thanks to a friendly nearby magnate civilization. Around turn 125, I noticed several outposts suddenly appearing in the frontier, of worlds of little value to me. The oddest thing was that I had AI colonization set to "off" (for good reason). Eventually, these worlds developed as freshnew worlds filled with more plant creatures. Odder still, one was a magnate civilization world, and I suddenly gained fungal people into my little empire. Has anyone else witnessed this phenomenom? Are the magnate peoples semi-autonomous?

    2) Approaching turn 200, I came across more magnates, and had also beaten other races at mixed colony expansion. Through this, I have gained a population of SEVEN other races in my empire, each having its own type. I present the list of the races of Iranniamo:

    1) Nommo (Ichthytosian)
    2) Audrieh (Plant)
    3) Phaigour (Fungal)
    4) Evon (Humanoid)
    5) Ajadar (Protoplasmic)
    6) Alkari (Avian)
    7) Darlok (Metashifters)
    8) Ithkul (Harvesters)

I hope to soon run an invasionary force in against my Saurian neighbors... soon I shall have many Raas amongst my ranks. How many have you guys collected?

    3) If anyone has had this happen, what in-game effects have you noticed of this multiculturalization?

    1) And you didn't saw the Darloks. They spread like there is no tomorow.
    2) In my curent game I have 7
    3) You can colonize a lot of planets with proper species.
Just build colony ships with a name **** "Nommo Col", "Evon Col" and make sure that only proper planets builds them.

What I've found odd is that I seem to not need to concentrate on colony ship nationality. It seems that either immigration or the previous outpostization that my magnate civs do for me will ensure that the new planets always receive the right types of people. It's fun to see how populations shift from one type to the next fairly rapidly in some cases (non-Ithkul, no less).

Yes, magnates and captured races are colonizing for their own - looks like outposting. They are colonizing the planets that are most appropriate for their race. A colony ship will create a colony with population the same as the major population of the planet it was built on.

There is another possible benefit from them. If you are going for a ground combat, you'd better send troops from the race which is most appropriate for the assaulted planet's local conditions.

In my Current Game I have:

          1. Psilon (the Race I started with)
          2. Rhea (Gargantuan), great Soldiers
          3. Darlok (Metashifters)
          4. Sakkra
          5. Audrieh
          6. Alkari
          7. Ithkul
          8. Silicoid
          9. Klackon
          10. Imsaeis

My Klackon and Imsaeis Civilizations came from Tech-Trades. My fellow allied Emperors sometimes include them along with some of their Techs into Tech-Trades, if they want a certain Technology from me.

So you got some tame Ithkul huh? How do they perform in your empire? Any risk of them migrating and eating more of your population?

Hmmmmm, i wonder if that would happen....

Anyway, i only currently have some Darlok and Elerian magnates in my Klackon Empire, hoping to get more though.

I've had outnumbered magnate races migrate on their own and take control of my planet before. I'd slag those bug-eyed b*******.

I had AI colonization turned off and notice my Magnate Civs still spread. I hope they know what they are doing because I can't see for sure if the worlds are good for a given magnate civ ahead of time.

When I first saw the subject though, I thought this message would be about how similiar some of the empire colors are on the galaxy map. I don't have any color vision issues and some of these colors look identical in my current 16 empire game. So much so that I am sure they are using LESS then 16 colors. How hard is it to come up with 16 diffent colors - 256 colors sounds pretty low tech to me.

Yes, the Ithkul do migrate and consume your population. There really should be some way of commiting genocide and exterminating population. As it is, siting in orbit and bombing/starving them out takes ages, and there's always a chance that another empire will have undesirables on one of their planets without you knowing.

Your own race will also migrate to uncolonized planets if there is mass starvation or overcrowding.

From what I've seen, Magnates will emigrate regardless of what you do. Fortunately, they tend to go somewhere that they'll be comfortable (them, not you), so having a Magnate Civ that likes planets that you don't is a definite bonus. Love those gas-giant inhabitants

Off topic: Osweld, where is that quote from? It looks familiar, but I can't place it. I've read all of the Discworld books at least once, and I'm working on his other books.

I think the reason that magnates migrate more often is because they generally do not share the same preferences as your own species, and would not find your other planets appealing, so they get over crowded quicker.

It's from the Discworld novel "Pyramids"

I've been noticing an upsurge in the migration of my species across my empire over the past 20-30 turns. The computer basically gets them to take to finding optimal homelands for you. It's great, IMO, as you really don't need to concentrate on the differentiation yourself. They'll take care of it on their own. Now, if only troop ships were the same way... lol

Well i played 2 games so far:

1st as the Imsais and i aquired the following:
                            -Darlok
                            -Ithkul
-Tachidi (had a brief war, they got mad on me in the exact turn i attacked the ithkul..., now we are allies and i traded for a couple more systems with them)
-Mrrshan (they lived in the Draconis system... i was shocked to find Mrrhsan after i defeated the Guardian)
                            -Nommo (being conquered right now...)

                            2nd game as the Sillies:
-Darlok (they seen to be everywhere, every second magnate is a Darlok Civ)
-Rhea (strange but the settled a terran (for them yellow 2) planet after i got their cold gas ginat under control
-Psilon (i had some problems defeating their homeworld... the planet missle bases were killing my fleats)

I love to watch new outpost form and grow. The turn after i captured my first psilon planet 4 psilon outpost appeared in my systems

Right now i'm trying to watch racial structures in computer empires... and the results are very promising. This refers to my silicoid game (because there are 16 empires and much conflict) Of course the computer races use magnates. The klacks have some alkari colonies for example. But the most interesting is too see a cynoid empire having 100% tachidi worlds or the klacks with 100% grendarl worlds... hm strange (was it trade or conflict?). A eoladi empire died early in the game, but there was still one eoladi populated world when i last looked at the planets cia the planet screen... This i think deserves some attention.

Oh one thing more(for the imsais game). i know this is not the thread, but i had a situation where my fleet arrived at a nommo world to eradicate thos squids but when i started combat i saw that there were also tachidi ships in the system. When i initiated combat i saw only one of my task forces and 9 transport TFs...!! We have a full alliance with the tachidi so it was normal for them to cede cotrol of thier ships to me but that way my TFs didn't enter dombat... (because there were too many TFs)

Those two examples could imply that the computer player inavedes sometimes. (1. i saw transport TFs belonging to the AI, 2.some empires have other then mangate races within them)

You know, I've beaten three Guardians, the Alkari, Bulrathi, and Darlock, and none of the planets in the system have a magnate race. I didn't start attacking the Guardians until turn 350 or so; did I wait too long?
