  • Where to download patches

Where do I download the patches? Do I have to do it via Stardock? I went to the GalCiv web siste and only found the bonus pack. I am downloading files at work due to the connection speed and based upon Yins response to my question on the General Forum:

COLOR=blue]Avoid Stardock at work because a) it HAS deleted people's entire c drive! (though I *guess* this is fixed) and b) even if you do the incremental updates on the game at work --if you install the game at work, that is-- you can't transfer those incremental updates back home.[/COLOR]

I am reluctant to install Stardock at work. I am very confused. Any suggestions?

The standalone 1.02 patch is available on the download page, so you can download that wherever you like and install on your computer that has GalCiv. You can also install Stardock on your computer at work, download the patches there, archive it and transfer the data, but that seems kind of tedious to me.

If you want to be able to get the patches on a regular basis, I would recommend installing Stardock on your machine with GalCiv. If you just let it run and get the patches as they're available, it can do that easily, even on a slow connection. That way, you can stay up to date with the patches as they come out individually, and not have to download a single huge patch.

Personally, I wouldn't place much confidence in the doom and gloom messages that a few people have posted about Stardock. It's worked quite reliably for me and the vast majority of people who have it installed.
