1. I want to design my own ships.
2. I want to fight in fleets on a tactical map. 3d would rock, but 2d is acceptable.
3. I want a turn based tactical combat, where the orders are given/mapped, then both parties execute them at the same time.
4. Interia, heading, accelerate, decelerate, turning, firing are limited by ships type and specials during combat. Different weapons have different firing arcs etc....such that you can set orders to fire on the enemy ship at point blank and end up flying by him before you get a shot off, because he accel'd by you.
5. I'm not overly concerned about planets or how they are implemented, but "sameness" to be avoided.
6. I'm not thrilled about "finding" stuff floating in space, rather to find them on the planet.
7. Oh and the ai must still rock.
I'll probably think of more, but this is a start.
BTW my favorite type of game is 4X space games and I've played them all. I tried the first GalCiv, but it did not hold my interest for very long...only a few days.
