I'm going to go ahead and assert in all likelihood that the people that've never had Fallout 3 crash on them, never played Fallout 3.

It looks like one of the biggest culprits is a quad-core or higher CPU, which the game handles incorrectly due to presumably some scheduling bug. One thread reaches a bad state and the whole thing crashes down.
