Damn builders are lazy. Always doing anything but building. Went through two stages of the campaign so far. The music is nice but the selection is limited. I would import my Tropico 1 soundtrack if I could.

Did the first Island last Night.
On my First Try I was invaded by the US of A just as I was giving my Reelection speech :/
Too bad El Presidente El Arachno Discotheca has tourettes syndrom. ( Not really worth it for the extra $/Year) Soviet Ships came twice Americans once (sans Invasion).
This was most likely caused by me having to use the IMF at least 5 times as the Export Ship took to long to arrive.
Will try 2 docks on the next Island and see how it goes =)Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!

Adagio--I do have to ask, only have played around with some of the buildings and pursuing the objectives straightforwardly in the demo: how did you get 100% approval from all the factions?
Incidentally, is the game as easy as it was in the demo? I cruised through both islands without a hiccup my first go around."My nation is the world, and my religion is to do good." --Thomas Paine

I didn't do anything special, just made sure everybody has a good home and good work. Making money by advanced factories (furniture in my case) and tourists. I was making lots of money so I could afford to pay them a higher salary than average. But I only played with difficulty 114%. I believe I had 100% approval for 10-15 years. Also because both USSR and USA loves me, that also gave me a big extra income every year (~$5,000 per country)
My second game is on about 145% difficulty and is a lot more difficult to keep them happy
The game is easier than Tropico 1 on the same difficultyThis space is empty... or is it?

I'm kind stuck right now. I started a campaign island where you have to side with either of the two superpowers, and being Russian, I picked USSR and tailored my presidente to get more respect from them: Moscow U, installed by KGB, alcoholic, etc... I also picked scholarly.
Turns out I have to get my population to 200 and maintain 60% respect. Of course, because I have no economy bonuses of any sort, my economy is going down the drain (3 coffee farms + 1 cannery = barely reaching 0). And of course when I built a college to get some generals, everyone got a degree and now I have 4 bishops, 8 generals, 8 college professors.
What's worse is that I cannot go back and try a different island, and I cannot restart using a different presidente (there are nice sugar-friendly fields, so a booze baron would be handy).Graffiti in a public toilet

Playing it, and liking it so far. Graphics are pretty good for a 7900GS, running at 1680x1050, did have to update my drivers to get the water showing alright. I played one sandbox game first (107% difficulty), then started with the campaign. Currently completed two islands. (Bananas and the religious island)
I agree with Adagio, it's easy. Once you're making profit, you can please everyone relatively easy. Roadbuilding is nice, wish SimCity had something similar. I'm still trying to figure out what a good layout is for any given city. Garages for example, how to get the most effect from them, where do you place them? (and why are they so freaking huge)
onodera, if you load your game and go to the ingame menu, there is a restart option. I haven't used that yet, but it sounds like what you're looking for<Kassiopeia> you don't keep the virgins in your lair at a sodomising distance from your beasts or male prisoners. If you devirginised them yourself, though, that's another story. If they devirginised each other, then, I hope you had that webcam running.

It doesn't let you pick another dictator or another island.Graffiti in a public toilet

Ah, what if you try New Game -> Campaign ? You should be able to start on any island that you've unlocked so far, right?<Kassiopeia> you don't keep the virgins in your lair at a sodomising distance from your beasts or male prisoners. I must say, the more i play it, the more i like it, and the more i respect the developer. Not because it's the greatest game ever, but because of the choices they made.
Consider that Tropico 1 is ages old, and that Tropico 3 is made by another developer. They could've pulled a SimCity Societies or Fallout 3 (i did like FO3 though) and try to reinvent the game. They didn't. This really feels like a true sequel. They took Tropico 1, fixed some of the things that didn't work (the UI mainly, imo), kept most of everything, and added a few features which actually improve the game (roads/garages).
Also unlike the sandbox mode, the scenarios aren't that easy. Some of them have restrictions on what you can build, making it a bit more difficult to please everyone. This is one of the few games where i actually enjoy playing the premade scenarios over the open-ended mode. Open-ended mode is great too, just need to find the right difficulty to play at.
Another thing i noticed is that there is already a patch available (1.04)...what's up with that...I thought the game wasn't even officially released yet? Anyway, at only 35 euro, and seemingly good support, this is definitely a game i'll be buying.<Kassiopeia> you don't keep the virgins in your lair at a sodomising distance from your beasts or male prisoners. BTW went with Wood industry near the harbour, expanded into Furniture and Rum later.
Whenever I start, I tend to convert any farms to cash crops and build a few ranches to feed the local population. Ranches pollute considerably, but are cheap and only require 2 pop to feed many people.I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

Good News for you then, the latest Patch solves this Problem. I loaded my capitalist savegame and the Island was instantly completed
How much Room does a Ranch really need? I only recently noticed the Cows trolling arround the Ranch and not inside the fence. Still better than the Urban Farms you sometimes start with i guessCurse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!
