PC version is a little different. I'm not sure of all the differences, but I know it gives you a bit more control over how many guns your ship is carrying. The console just automates that.
It's a good game, but it is essentially just a handful of mini-games that you play over and over again.
the naval combat mini game is at the heart of it, and its like a light version of Age of Sail. Which is good.
The overall game reminds me in many ways of Mount & Blade (though the combat at the core of that was apparently a good bit more complex than the naval combat model in Pirates)
Im not wild about the fencing minigame, and havent done land combat or dancing.

I quite enjoyed the dancing! - mainly because it was a little 'leftfield' and i hadn't been expecting it, and also it was something that the old 'Pirates! Gold' didnt have or do better. Not a bad game, but i cant take it as seriously as the old Pirates! but that was the point in part.

the dancing minigame is as annoying as the fencing game for similar reasons.
I still enjoy the overall game though. I dont know as it will hold up for lots of replay, but thats the advantage of getting it through gametap (and would be an advantage even for someone paying full price for gametap)

So LotM, would you say you are becoming a full convert to the digital download method of game delivery? I ask as we have certain simularities in the way we like to game(playing behind the curve to cut out the crap and concentrate on the best etc) but even though i like the idea of the freedom digitial download gives developers, i'm still a guy who will look for a physical copy unless i just cant find one that way. If a dev doesnt offer a physical copy, they mostly lose my sale(currently).

Yes, very much so. Given my general gaming habits, (I buy about a half dozen games a year, at average price of about $10 cause so many are older) Gametap at $120 US a year, is a tad on the pricey side. If there was a Gametap for cheapskates that had fewer recent games and was priced at $5 or so per month, I would probably go for that. Thats as far as monthly services on like gametap go.
I still haven't purchased a game from a download service like Steam or Good old games. I think its time to break that barrier too though. Right now my biggest issue with them is the inconvenience of having to look at several different services - GOG, Steam, Impluse, DirecttoDrive to find an obscure game. An meta or price aggregator site, that tells me WHICH online services have a particular game would be useful and I intend to ask around about that (yes, I know theres google, but game names get so many hits)
Meanwhile, thats the price we pay for such an open platform. Not like 360, where, IIUC, there is ONE place to DL and one place only. Hopefully the lively PC online service scene will continued to be innovative.
As for having a disc, I see arguments for that, and all else being equal, I would prefer that. But its NOT equal - its hard to find many of the games I look for in brick and mortar stores, and an order online for physical delivery service like Amazon involves shipping/handling fees that are too relative to the price of old games.
And BTW, I think Good Old Games, at least, sells games without DRM, so you can burn your own disc. I dont know about Impulse, but given Wardells outspokenness wrt DRM, I would suspect their policies are more lenient than Steam.

GOG and GG does not use DRM. I'm not sure about Impulse but I think they don't either. Steam I would avoid as the plague. And not only because of DRM...
