"Pirates! Gold" is still the best version of this game imho:
As with the original, this is a blend of strategy, action and adventure. Pirates! Gold lets you play the role of a beginning buccaneer in the 17th century Spanish Main, in search of fame and fortune. Each town in this untamed raw region has different...
but for the younger player the new console version is a good place to start

Yeah, they definitely made it for the PC first. That said, undoubtedly they were aiming for the 'younger gamer' (as you note) and that may well have meant a more console-y feel... but it was not designed for a console. CivRev was the first Firaxis game designed first for consoles.<Reverend> IRC is just multiplayer notepad.

I wonder what else El Cid uses this technique for............
And yes it appears i made a mistake with the chronological order this game was released. I think that becasue i got it on xbox first and quite a bit later on PC(sale offer and i was curious) i just assumed it came out that way.
BUT i think my point still stands, atleast to me - comparing this latest version to the old PC/Mac/Amiga only gold version, it feels very console orientated. It looks cartoony, so aimed at a younger audience(which Sid said was the point). And it played better on the xbox i thought - it felt better as a console game rather than a pure PC game imho.
But yes i was wrong, the PC version came out first - well corrected and my gaming knowledge got a +1

"Dodging shrapnel?" A veteran, are we? This is a good thing.
OTOH the Pirates! game is a little light for a Sid offering. No matter where you go, there you are. - Buckaroo Banzai
