  • I have downloaded and become a pirate

Yes, I have downloaded Sid Meiers Pirates! from Gametap. I like it, so far.

played this on xbox, it was a pretty fun game. The sword fighting got old though.

"Pirates! Gold" is still the best version of this game imho:

As with the original, this is a blend of strategy, action and adventure. Pirates! Gold lets you play the role of a beginning buccaneer in the 17th century Spanish Main, in search of fame and fortune. Each town in this untamed raw region has different...

but for the younger player the new console version is a good place to start

come on now - it was obviously designed for the console then ported to the PC 'as is' Sid even gave many interviews on how they were looking to aim it at younger audiences, and there is nothing wrong with that - the sales proved it

Evidence that it was designed for consoles then ported to PC? The PC version came out over 6 months before the Xbox version.

Yeah, they definitely made it for the PC first. That said, undoubtedly they were aiming for the 'younger gamer' (as you note) and that may well have meant a more console-y feel... but it was not designed for a console. CivRev was the first Firaxis game designed first for consoles.

But but I am reliably informed that it was "obviously designed for consoles"

I wonder what else El Cid uses this technique for............

These are not the indie games you are looking for

lol 'reliably' !!! - look i'm completely ok to admit a mistake(unlike someone), years of zen study and dodging shrapnel and 'life in general' doesn't make me one of those "my god i can't admit i'm wrong or else the universe will implode" kind of people I'm cool with mistakes.

And yes it appears i made a mistake with the chronological order this game was released. I think that becasue i got it on xbox first and quite a bit later on PC(sale offer and i was curious) i just assumed it came out that way.

BUT i think my point still stands, atleast to me - comparing this latest version to the old PC/Mac/Amiga only gold version, it feels very console orientated. It looks cartoony, so aimed at a younger audience(which Sid said was the point). And it played better on the xbox i thought - it felt better as a console game rather than a pure PC game imho.

But yes i was wrong, the PC version came out first - well corrected and my gaming knowledge got a +1

"Dodging shrapnel?" A veteran, are we? This is a good thing.

OTOH the Pirates! game is a little light for a Sid offering.

Very mature. Now if I can only just get Asher to admit his mistakes on these forums my work here is done.
