I was looking at some of the gameplay videos on the official site (not sure how old they are, but I saw them for the first time), and the game looks good. The videos show alot of footage from the actual game (taking you through the beginning and I was surprised how fleshed out the presentation for the videos is.

It looks like shades of NWN2 but better in terms of camera control and party control. It's touted as the spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate, but not sure about that one.

I know it's presumably 6 months out, but anyone else here looking forward to it or are you not expecting much?
While there might be a physics engine that applies to the jugs, I doubt that an entire engine was written specifically for the funbags. - Cyclotron - debating the pressing issue of boobies in games.

I'm hoping much ... not sure about expecting. I'd love it to be what they say it will be (return to the great parts of BG/etc., but better), but ... who knows.

Hmm, apparently there's a playable version out somewhere... P-A mentions playing it at NY Comic-Con.

Well, I wish them well and hope for the best too. I think they mentioned that the main reason it is delayed is because they want a simultaneous launch with consoles ala EA's wishes.

The "origins" part is supposed to represent a "return to the roots of BG/IWD" with the pause and plan aspect and the camera options for a top down view.

I still load up BG/IWD to this day from time to time. I will keep my expectations low though. Only way to go lately.

I just happened to stumble across it last night. Did anyone read anything about a co-op feature (via LAN)? The fact they are delaying it for PC because because of the consoles, kinda makes me hope for it being released rather finalized. Like in: No bugs. And: No ´consoly´ game-play, à la BioShock, Oblivion and FallOut3 (onedera, jump at me :P ), limited to a couple of buttons, that is poorly adapted for the PC. (It´s rather easy to set up FallOut3 in a way, that you can do most anything with the mouse alone - and it would be even easier, if alternative set-ups would work for the PipBoy and Container-Inventories as well.) ´Party´ and ´Pausing´ (who wouldnt like to pause for a party from time to time?!) are definetely two big pluses for me, anyways, so i am looking forward to this one.

I've been looking forward to this for a while. Seems bioware is the only one doing rpg's anymore. They are almost dead (again). At least single players ones that is. Hope it's great.

It's really shaping up to be a killer RPG from what I've seen.

According to the lead writer, they wanted to avoid the 'good vs evil' trap.

Ironically enough, apparently, the plot of the game is about an organization dedicated to fight uber-evil monsters kept away in a sort of Hell/Underdark.

If their claims are true, it means that the game should be more centered about managing your own career in that organization, instead of beating the crap out of those monsters. Let's hope they live up to it. I'd rather fight human parties and fend off assassins than beat SUPERUGLYVIL MONSTERS.

                          Diablo Alert.

I've read a thread on Bioware's forums where a poster notices that the trailers display a 'Diablo-esque' casting system, with mana and machine-gunning lightning bolts.

He goes on complaining that he much prefers the Infinity engine casting system, with a rock-paper-scissors feel and long, dramatic casting times.
A Bioware employee kicks in and answers: 'We don't.'

                          RED ALERT.

Hmmm, I think it depends on how it's implemented. A GOOD RPG that is a bit 'faster' wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing. See KoTOR, Mass Effect, etc... bringing some of that cinematic, fast-paced feel to D&D might liven up the genre.

But, it obviously depends on how it's implemented...

                              Agreed.

Both the poster and the employee have a point.

The BG series made spellcasters ridiculously weak and boring up to level ~10, and then they became great fun.

Bioware wants wizards to be interesting from level 1 apparently, which entails being able to repeatedly fire small missiles, until the more complex spells kick in. Well, hopefully. I certainly wouldn't enjoy a Diablo-style damage contest.
