    its mind-numbingly boring on all but the fastest speeds,
    Aahz is right about this. The "fast" speed in the vanilla game is like the "slow" speed in EU I. that makes the vanilla game unplayable. I've heard, from Nikolai and others that the expansions improve the game.

    I have not purchased them, however, because the game was too dull to be fun. (EU I however was amazing )

      And what does "GC," "IN," and "WC" stand for?

            GC = Grand Campaign
            IN = In Nomine, latest XP
            WC = World Conquest

            Just ask if you're wondering on anything. The demo is very outdated btw, lots of tech issues and stuff has been changed and improved since it was released right before EU3 vanilla's release.

            DC: Speed has been vastly improved and with IN EU3 is more fun than EU2 and EU1.

              Okay, so the demo would not be very good to use, in deciding to buy the game.

              And Nikolai, I guess you strongly disagree with Boris and others then on the fun factor with the EU 3 expansions.

                Yep. I liked EU3 from the beginning, but I fell for the game completely with IN. NA was okay, but it's only important improvement was the fixing of the speed issue. EU3 with IN is PI's best game ATM.

                    I agree with Nikolai

                    EU3 In Nominae is one hell of a game.

                      I have Vanilla, but didn't play it all that much. Good game as I remember it, but nothing revolutionary.

                      Perhaps I should consider getting the expansions

                      One question Nikolai. With 2 expansions now out, is there a setting that you can change, which would allow backwards nations (i.e. Aztecs or something like that) to enjoy the same bonuses as Europeans? I like to use a game like this to rewrite history in a big way?

                      I remember that I could do it by modding the game files, but I would like a setting like that

                      Asmodean
                      Im not sure what Baruk Khazad is , but if they speak Judeo-Dwarvish, that would be "blessed are the dwarves" - lord of the mark

                        You can do it through modding, but there's no ingame option to do so. You can turn off lucky nations though. And with or without such an option, it's possible to rewrite history in a big way. Check out the aar section of PI's forums, I'm sure someone has made an aar out of it.

                        To change the tech modifiers:

                        your EU3 folder/common/technology.txt

                        There you'll find all you need to modify.

                            In Eu3, some historical major powers, iirc 8, gets special bonuses to help them get their historical dominance. Normal setting is 8 of a predefined set. With IN, one can in the settings change that to a random selection or none at all. Among various other settings this can be found in the options when starting a new campaign.

                              sounds interesting

                              I was at a Target store recently to see if they had Europa Universalis III bundled with all its expansions but they did not have EU III; not even the first one by itself.

                              I may have to go to a game store or buy it online from amazon.com or somewhere else.

                                If you don't mind buying it as a download, try gamersgate.com, PI's own store. You get no DRM and you can download it to as many computers you want, it's all tied to your login. And the customer service is good.

                                You'll get a good price too, better than me at least. The prices are in euro for Europeans and dollar for Americans, and as the prices are always the same in both currencies, you get a great deal with the current strong euro and weak dollar.
