  • Sparrow should've lost only 2 cities. (40/7)-(17/6)= 240/42-119/42, or 121/42, slightly less than 3.

    3*5=15/7=~2.14, round down.

    Also, how do you calculate army losses?

    • ? Theben-

      This was the formula I used:
      c=(40/7)-(17/6)x (5/7)
      ~3.67
      rounded down to 3 cities captured.

      Is the correct calculation. You left off the last two numbers that should be multiplied. Sparrow did lose 3 cities. It was only a one-way attack, not a full-fledged war.

      the calculation is:
      C = ((A / DT) - (D / DC)) * (AT / DT), round down.
      ---
      As for the army losses:

      Taking casualties

      Attacker takes casualties as follows:

      Casualties = D / AT.

      Defender takes casualties as follows:

      Casualties = (D / DC) * cities lost.

      • okay, army support is calculated, everything should be ready to go!

        The numbers in the chart are correct.

        Theben's support cost him 5 gp
        Jonny's support cost 1 gp
        MJW's support cost 4 gp.

          What was your final decision on this? (I'm assuming this had to do with my going through a revolution this turn, since you also didn't mention a value for Spaced.)

              • Hmm... If I don't here back about this by thursday night I will assume that Sparrowhawk declines the peace offer. (unless he failed to log-on. I'll wait unitill friday then.)

                I can not move until Sparrowhawk declines or accpets. Or theben says something that makes this moot.

                (I have two finals on friday too!)

                  • I think I now remember why we stopped playing this game....it is way too hard to GM.

                    The army formula is actually this

                    ((A / DT) - (D / DC)) * (AT / DT)

                    meaning this (you forgot some important parenthesis)

                    c=((40/7)-(17/6))x (5/7)

                    c=(5.714-2.833)x(0.714)

                    c=2.057

                    I'm not even sure how you came up with the gold totals???

                    I gave you what should be my starting gold, plus any trades that I received.

                    Remever that my empire was not able to do any taxing for last turn and my trades were still at despotism (anarchy). This is true for Jonny as well. So they are at the lower level.
                    We're sorry, the voices in my head are not available at this time. Please try back again soon.

                    • In anarchy, you get 1/2 taxes, not 0 taxes.

                        Oh, you received some number and it was added into your final score- I just dont know what the number was- (I cleared the cache before I noticed what trade you had received) If I recalculated everything, I could probably find it out- rest assured I am certain you have the correct amount of gold for next turn, and that my program will correctly add it into your total.

                        The number presented there is just for reference. Sorry to have worried you.
                        --
                        and for now, I apologize for doing this, but for the ease of running the program that I'm using, and so that I don't have to go back and "fix" people's statistics in earlier rounds- anarchy results in full taxation at the new government level.

                        I am sorry to do that, but I will really screw things up and be unfair if I change it for this game. For the NEXT game, that will be fixed. I had thought it was calculating that way in the program- but It was not.

                        ==
                        As for the city calculation- I just fixed that. MJW conquered TWO cities, not THREE. I have adjusted his taxation and Sparrowhawks' taxation to reflect that.

                        I think this clears up all problems.

                        Also, Sparrowhawk on the map has the city D12.

                          Haha. Thanks for the sympathy.

                          As a future FYI, NASCAR is probably going to be simplified a little bit to facilitate the coding for the program I'm running this with.

                          I think after this game, I'll have all the kinks worked out of my program calculator that's determining things. Some rules might need to be simplified/changed so that everything can be automated but the program is improving.

                          Today, after having to do the war calculations by hand (and screwing that up) I fixed part of the war mechanic (the one way wars).. and am working on two-way wars.

                          Eventually, I hope to have calculators for all players.

                          For now, the greatest help is for you to present your calculations for me so I can double check if there are any errors in my own numbers.

                          I think everything else should be fine for this round.

                          Due to certain confusions, I'm allowing turns to be due in 48 Hours.

                          But I will have to warn, from next Wed-Monday, I will be on vacation and completely out of computer contact. Then from that monday-the following wed, I will have limited computer availability due to said vacation.

                            As you declared war, I am not in a position to offer peace but if you are offering peace, then I accept gladly. You will see the that Birds of Prey are a peaceful sort, eager to build their society in a manner that benefits the world as a whole.

                            I believe that in Society, as in life, the cost of war is great for those involved, and benefits those not involved. Thanks for illustrating this point

                            We are now behind the others, and it will be interesting to see if either of us is able to catch up.

                            /me

                            Edit: Darkcloud, is there any reason to continue to post the cost of techs 2-5 as 1 gold each? While it is interesting to note that new techs cost 1 gold once all societies have them, I don't see anyone researching them again

                            Edit#2:
                            Defender takes casualties as follows:

                            Casualties = (D / DC) * cities lost.
                            So with the change in number of cities, my math on armies lost is now:
                            17/6 * 2 = 5.6666 correct?

                              Okay, now I'm really confused. You had just 'fixed' previous turns wrt 1/2 taxation- I even pointed it out to you, and we agreed to 1/2 taxation but at the new govt level. If Spaced and others get full taxation now, it'll penalize me and MJW (whose taxes you went back and adjusted also).
