i cant think of the source right now. IIRC it was kotaku.
If that's the case, then there's the Barbarian and two other old classes plus the Witch doctor and one other new class.

Now this all depends on what qualifies as a "traditional class." If it plays just like an old class but looks different and has a different name, is it old or new?

Presuming they're bringing back 2 more characters straight from D2, the choices are Paladin, Necromancer, Amazon, Sorceress, Assassin and Druid.

I say Amazon can be eliminated from the start (they're female-exclusive) as can the Necromancer (too similar in function to the Witch Doctor).

Of the remaining four, I would rule out the Druid (they're less popular and rather lame IMHO). I think the Paladin stands the best chance of returning; he covers the holy powers front and was fairly popular before.

That leaves either the Sorceress or the Assassin, both of which were fairly popular. Of these two, I think the Sorceress is more likely, and that the other new class is thus a ranged attack type (like a Ranger). Were the Assassin the third new class, that would mean that Blizzard left all the melee classes the same, choosing only to replace magic classes. That doesn't sound like Blizzard.

Thus, based on this information, I would call the classes thusly:

    Barbarian
    Witch Doctor
    Paladin (or variant)
    Sorcerer/ess (or variant)
    Ranger

    Thoughts?

Don't forget Blizzard will have prepared for expansions of at least two new characters. They may leave one of the popular ones out and include a new character for the first batch.

Of the 5 listed above me, the Sorcerer, imo, is the least needed, as the Witch Doctor, Paladin and even the Ranger cast many forms of magic themselves. If I were Blizzard, I would probably use this opportunity to add two entirely new character classes, the other, being something like I said, a born-again devil, using dark magic for good - which would be interesting, having a devil fight devils; or, let's think outside the square a bit, what about a distant traveller from Asia, skilled in martial arts and equipped with Magic Dragon Chinese Chopsticks.

Yeah, My sentiments exactly. A demoniac "Warlock" with unholy powers and a far eastern-style Monk who is a martial artist would make great NPCs, maybe in an XP.

And I think they may push for two XPs this time, as that seems to be the gaming trend these days: milking a franchise for all it's worth.

I know, I always thought it was hilarious that that was Frasier's ex-wife's name. Apropos on so many levels.

And now it looks like Lilith is going to be a major villainess in the series, as one of the very few undefeated major demons in the Diablo legendarium.
