I got thinking about your axe vs sword question. Its been a while since I have played so I had to look this up.

You will get more non critical DPS from a sword, but you will get more critical DPS from an Axe.

Think of a sword as slow steady DPS, and an Axe as having Peaks and valleys of DPS.

    DPS = damage per second.

I prefered having more critical attacks so I use mainly axes.

The other thing to check out is collector weapons (vice aiting for a dropped weapon), there are some very nice collector weapons in this game.
So I should look for an Axe?

Im not home, but seems I got a small hand axe, dont think it was a hatchet, but an axe only takes one hand?

    Thanks

I will look to get together tonight if our schedules permit

You also mentioned "Collector" Weapons, I believe I saw several "Collectors"

Thanks, one of you taught me last inght.."CTRL" to highlight players and "ALT" to highlight specialists

One thing I am just a little fuzzy about, in the chest it allows me to store gold, but I believe I was told it was just as safe to hold onto it.

This is ok, to keep all my gold on me versus storing it in a chest?

    • Oh and one other thing, I couldnt sleep last night so played a little, basically went killing creatures versus a quest.

Is their anything wrong with doing this, as a matter of collecting gold and items?

I did run up on something that resemble a scorpion, forget its name, but it seemed to either heal itself or something else was healing it as we fought, due to it regenating strength at a very alarming rate!

Very enjoyable time is being had as we speak!

      • Yes Axes are one handed. I think an axe or a sword is a personal preference. As you are starting out, I believe whatever drops for you that is better will probably determine what you use

Nope that what you are supposed to do in game Gramps

The creatures in game will have characteristics just like players.

There are warrior bugs, and monk skeletons, etc.

        • Well, essentially, early on, Swords give bleeding, Axes give bigger blows.

Swords have more skills that use energy and typically require less adrenaline. Axes typically hit a bit harder, but cost more adrenaline, so get used a bit less often.

Axes deliver a better spike, but you trigger it less often and have to be smart about it. Swords deliver less of a spike, but more often, and you can just spam it around.

*based on Prophesies skills only. Dragon Slash essentially gives swords a near-constant spike ability that (if it wasn't 'balanced' since my last playing) puts swords head and shoulders above axes for a single target. (Sun and moon slash, Silverwing slash, Galrath slash, dragon slash, silverwing, galrath, sun and moon slash, one normal swing, Dragon, silver, galrath, etc)

          • I have 1 Hammer Skill..(ICON) and two available Sword Skills (ICONS) if I am referencing correctly....

I will do some reading up on the attributes side, but am like 5 or 6 on Tactics....

This is indeed intriguing, many different ways to go indeed!

            • Like I said last night Gramps by the time this campaign ends you will probably be primarily a "Tactics" warrior and use a lot of stances.

Early on its easy to do damage, and avoid damage. As the game progresses, that become much much harder to do.

So it looks like you should look for a sword right now. or check out that collector link above, and get a collector weapon. You can pick the one you are saving for and then start colecting those drops.

Or didn't UnO give you a decent newbie sword?

                Exactly.
And those regenerating at high rate are probably of the 'ranger' type (Troll Unguent).

You'll encounter quite some of them.

                • Yeah, you should learn to disrupt Troll Unguent by whatever means available.

There's a no-attribute skill you get fairly early that can interrupt. Disrupting axe...I can't recall when you get that...The sword interrupt comes late. Hammer Knockdown works well.

                  • I could axe disrupt before the desert if I remember correctly.

                    • Disrupting Chop is available in Ascalon City.

If it hits during the opponents skill, it interupts it and disrupts that skill for 20 seconds.

So you can have all your Dragon BS skills for the sword. Ill take my axe

                      • Bah. It's the hero's job to do the disrupting.

Prior to that, yes, disrupting chop had a use, and was pert near MANDATORY for certain mobs if you were using henchmen.

                        I know...maybe we should duel...

                        • He doesn't have Heros on the Prophesies Warrior and won't have them till he gets to LA

And we had this discussion before, in general its always better to have Heros disrupt, because they are computer controlled, but if you can't have that, and are in an area where the Rangers and Mesmer henchies suck (Like early game Prophesies), then that skill is very usefull. And you even admitted there is no early disrupt for a sword. Plus the bleeding attributes are going to become more and more useless once he hits Kryta, and especially the Maguma Jungle.

But this discussion is really academic, in early game Prophesies, it probably doesn't mean much anyway, he can probably just Wammo his way thru everything up to D'Alessio Seaboard, with an axe or a sword.

                          • BTW Gramps for literally years UnO, I and a few others have posted and discussed Guild Wars in depth at another forum, thats owned and run by Master Zen, another old timer polytubby

                            Its called MZO Online.

The Guild Wars forum is here:

If you are looking for some good stuff to read, its there, and especially the con-UnO banter which has been going on forever, in a very good natured way

We also have our own Guild Forum, but haven't used it much:

                            • Yes, as I said in chat last night, the game tends to push you towards axes early, just based on when you get what skills.

Axes, he can get Cyclone Axe, Executioners chop and Disruptive chop right in Ascalon, and Penetrating Blow from a quest in Old Ascalon. It's not great, but it's the first build you can really make as a warrior.
