  • Crytek cries, ends PC exclusivity, supports consoles

Now we know why FrostyBoy was feeling all insecure 'round these parts.

PC piracy forces Crytek to support consoles
Will continue to support the PC, but no longer as an exclusive release platform.

Speaking to PC Play Magazine, Crytek president Cevat Yerli has revealed that piracy of PC games is such a massive problem that it has forced the Crysis developer to move to multi-format releases.

"We are suffering currently from the huge piracy that is encompassing Crysis," said Yerli. "We seem to lead the charts in piracy by a large margin, a chart leading that is not desirable. I believe that's the core problem of PC Gaming, piracy. To the degree PC gamers that pirate games inherently destroy the platform."

Yerli continued: "Similar games on consoles sell factors of 4-5 more. It was a big lesson for us and I believe we won't have PC exclusives as we did with Crysis in future. We are going to support PC, but not exclusive anymore."

He didn't say it, but this all but confirms that future instalments in the Crysis franchise will be coming to home consoles and PC.
"The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."
Ben Kenobi: "That means I'm doing something right. "

Um, piracy's a big factor, but so is the fact that your game requires a $2500 computer to play.

        Wait...

        1. Too many people are pirating our games instead of buying them.

        2. This is because we release on the PC.

        3. So we're going to release on consoles and the PC.

So, once there's an XBox360 version, people will suddenly stop pirating the PC version and pay an extra $10 for the XBox360 version?

        genius...

More realistically, people can actually run the game on consoles.

No kidding. Which is why his argument is retarded. For the president of the company he's really not too swift.

Oh, I think he's very swift. He's trying to underplay his real reason by pretending it's another one

I'm referring to the complaint that a new computer with decent specs is required to enjoy Crysis. I guess a lot of people just expect their computers to run all the latest games, regardless of their PC's age.

(And I'm aware of the complaints against Crysis regarding its poor optimization, etc.)

Your profit is determined by your market, and your market for computer games is determined by the subset of people who can run your game (or you can sucker into buying it anyway...) Certainly I have no problem with making a game that only super fast rigs can run, but somehow I think the market of people with medium rigs is enough larger to justify considering them

You're making no sense. Sure it's technological progress but it also explains why his sales are so piss poor. Technological progress for a PC user costs a lot more than it does for a console user..

My only point was, newer games require newer machines.
