I've been playing this for the last couple of days. It's strangely compelling for a game in which you don't really do that much, or lots of little things, but I really don't see why this is teh best game evar. I see lots of similar comments of various forums now that the hype has died down.

Worth the money I'd say, but more of an 85-90 than a 100 in my book. So far at least - one thing that should be mentioned is that even a few hours in new gameplay elements are still being added.

Thread is 12 pages long. I'm not going to read through it all, ok I will in a minute but first I want to say what I want to say before finding out it has already been said umpteen times before.

When you pick up a hooker, I believe they are a cross between hippo's and humans in this incarnation, they actually perform sex acts inside the car. No more car rocking back and forth in humor. The hippo will mount poor whatshisface inside of a sports car and render services paid for. Needless to say I take even greater joy in killing the hookers in GTA4 than I did in GTA3. Hell in GTA3 I only killed them to get my money back after getting the hp bonus. In GTA4 if I see them I get out of my car, even during mission, and proceed to slaughter them. They are no longer humorous, they are disgusting.

The driving (vehicle control) blows. I don't get to weave in and out of traffic at apparently 50000 mph anymore. Now I have to weave in and out at 10 mph or risk grinding to a halt only to spend the next 5 minutes accelerating back up to 1 mph.

There aren't tons of weapons scattered about for you to pick up and go postal with. Everything in the game that I have experienced so far seems to be engineered to discourage going postal.

Radio stations suck. TV is stupid, too much effort is a bad thing. No naked boobies in the stip clubs yet is also bad. (come on, if the hippo mounts you why can't you see some nipples and bush? Imagination is for children!) Having to take people out on dates is gay (no, not homosexual, gay). This is not the "Sims: GTA", or is it? (I know I can ignore the whole taking people out thing, and I fully intend to from here on out, bonuses be damned)

Realism sucks, give me my cartoonish playground of violence back!

I would also like to be given the option to be a complete ass to Roman. I want Niko to bone his chick and kick him out of his own apartment.

I know. Mallorie is the nicest girl in the whole game. It kind of sucks you don't get to see her much.

Bullet point review:
*Brucie is hilarious.
*Where are the Cheetahs?
*New wanted system is good.
*Calling 911 for health/ police cannon fodder is good.
*Need more ways to get money once story is complete. i.e. vigilante missions need to give more cash.
*For a so called "sand-box" game, where you can "do anything" you sure have to make a lot of obviously bad decisions for the sake of the story. Of course, I have always felt that GTA games aren't as "open ended" as most people say they are.
*On that note, attention Rockstar: (it's about the ending)

When I invest 60 dollars and 20+ hours in a game, I expect to be able, through smart play, to get a good ending. Especially when this game is supposed to be full of freedom and openess and player decisions. This "ha ha, someone gets killed no matter what you do" is bull ****

*Cover system is excellent. There is a problem with getting off the wall sometimes, and if some one rushes you it is sometimes difficult to attack enemies who are close. But overall, combat is much improved and very fun.
*I want missiles on my gunship.
*Needs more save points.
*Taxis are very good and useful now.
*More should have been done with the in-game internet. It pretty much is just lame attempts at humor and some scripted events. I want to be able to call everyone with a car on auto-erotica, not just one person.
*Multi-player is good. Like the different modes. Sometimes the city is a little too big given the number of players though, especially if you can only find lobbies with 4 or 5 people.

Overall: Best GTA yet, mainly thanks to the taxis, wanted radius, and cover system. Good game, but not a 100. Maybe a 90-95, with an additional 10 points off for the ending. (It really did piss me off.)

ref Dr.Spikes remarks on the PS2(and Xbox) - I'd give a big thumbs up for a PS2, I've been very impressed with the games I've got for mine and not only does it have all the games the xbox has(that are worth playing) but it also has a huge range of non xbox released titles.
Some of those you will find very interesting as I do(You are also an 'older' games connaissur like me - I was the old 'child of thor' and we used to discuss playing EU2 on old spec machines etc).

A very quick list of great PS2 games to start(as I have to dash, I'll post more on this later in another thread):

1.Guitar Hero III
2.Okami(zelda like, but beautiful japanese style art and a really positive game message - great for kids also)
3.We Love Katamari - also great for kids(can be hard to find!)

My Xbox is pretty much a pure DVD player these days, apart from Morrowind(which is much better on PC) non of the games for it gave more than a few weeks 'entertainment'(that's all it's about these days).

PS2 - probably the best console in the world(as carlsberg might say)
Next gen can wait until it sorts out 'graphics over gameplay'(to put it simply) as far as i'm concerned.
