  • How modable will Spore be?

Will has spent a lot of time talking about how free the player will be in creating new content, by this I mean new creatures and art with the in-game tools. I’m wondering how free will you be to change things beyond the scope of the tools?Let’s say I want to mod the civ phase to make it more like civ or if I want to mod the galactic age or whatever it’s called and expand diplomacy?

What if I want to improve the AI, will I be able to tweak it? (like Blake did with civ )

What about the interface and the graphics engine? Eg If I wanted the “new” cellular phase to be less cartoony and more like it was before or to give the game a more adult look (and god willing content)

And if mods are made, how will the massively online single player concept work with them? I mean your computer cant upload a sentient flying creature that you created with a “smart birds” mod to a vanilla spore computer. Will you be stuck with playing the original CD/DVD contetnt? Will you be able to share content with other people with your mod?

good idea - i think folks here, and others like us, will want Spore to be more serious in the later, post creature stages, and will have lots of good ideas for doing so.

From what I have read I HIGHLY doubt you will be able to mod the game past its original design. Meaning, you wouldnt be able to create a "Civilization" game using the tools provided.

IIRC about a year ago I heard something about the game being modable, but don't remember if they mentioned how much you could mod. I doubt we'll see game changing mods though

If they do allow mods in the game, then they might make it something like this:
Player A installs mod 1, creates a create that gets uploaded
Player B has also installed that mod, but player C hasn't. Player C will not be able to find that create in his game, but player B will

Though that would require mods to be registered on the Spore servers I guess
Or maybe they just disable the ability to upload creates if you have a mod installed
This space is empty... or is it?

          So is the game modable?
