I don't want to escalate this, but you guys are just so full of crap. The game looks dog and plays like ass. The enemies are blind and retarded at the same time. The interface is atrocious. Deus ex is dead and should stay that way.
Im interested to find out if the original Doom were to be re-made using Crysis graphics, and exactly how fun it would be; would it be as fun as the original, or maybe more fun or less?
Propably less, the Original Doom was mainly InDoor Missions. While current Shooters mostly disallow free exploring of the World and Force the Player to follow a certain route, in Doom this was even more extreme. Get the .. Keycard to unlock Area II etc.
Current Games create at least the Illusion you are following the Plotline on your own free Will *g*
The Leveldesign has also quite changed since Doom (Which didnt allow for example One Room on Top of Another, Elevators or such.
I think those came with DN3D/Unreal)
Also, and i may be corrected on this one, there was no real Story in Doom Yeah one doomed Space Marine
Final Point: What good are good Graphics (shiny) with the AI of Doom 1 ?
Conclusion: Really Cheesy, might work good in MP though! The Fast-paced Gameplay has been only maintained in UT since.

Have you played Doom 3? If so, what did you think of it?
Age and treachery will defeat youth and skill every time.

Judging from the Settlers 2 re-make with modern graphics I say it would suck. Games have developed in complexity and depth over that long time and people expect a lot more from a new full priced game than such old games can provide. If you remake it exactly how it was (as was done with S2), people will rightly call it shallow (which it is from today's POV) and not worth the money; if you improve complexity and depth, it would be a sequel and not a re-make.

Doom 3, despite some very valid criticism(WHY THE HELL IS THERE NO DUCTAPE ON THE ENTIRE PLANET OF MARS SO I CAN TAPE A FLASHLIGHT TO MY GUN?) has next to nothing in common with Doom 1 and Doom 2, except it is a "horror" shooter and some of the story is similar.
Level design and play elements are very different.
To respond to Sir Ralph: Some games have evolved in complexity. Others have devolved. Just because certain genres are more complex today, like say, most RTS games, does not mean other games or genres are more complex. Most RPGs for example(see deus ex!) are less complex today then 5 or 6 years ago.
Games which are nothing but action games or shooters(Dark messiah anyone? Witcher? Hordes of other action games pretending to be RPGs?) are being passed off as RPGs today.
Doom 3 had a lot to do with the original Doom. There were quite a few references. Enough that I expected there to be a couple hell knights at the gate.
As far as The Witcher goes...that is far more RPG than older "RPGs" just as any JRPG or Diablo/Darkstone/etc.
"Yay Apoc!!!!!!!" - bipolarbear
"At least there were some thoughts went into Apocalypse." - Urban Ranger
"Apocalype was a great game." - DrSpike
"In Apoc, I had one soldier who lasted through the entire game... was pretty cool. I like apoc for that reason, the soldiers are a bit more 'personal'." - General Ludd
Doom 3 was not really all that similar to doom 1 and 2. Frostboy responded to my post that graphics are mostly unimportant, by implying that if we upgraded doom 1 or doom 2 with doom 3 graphics, they would be the same as doom 3. I responded to explain that is not correct, which it is not.
I take back what I said about Witcher. It *IS* an RPG. However it is a step down in complexity from RPGs of say, 5 or 6 years ago.
