I want a human caravan cause there is stuff I want to build and it says I don't have the plans yet. Also, I want an anvil! This time my dogs and my buff people killed the guy who went beserk (he was when he got there).

My rooms generally are full of boulders.

I have 88427 imported, 0 exported, and 33700 created. I have 30 population (in the same room where my first guy died, another guy decided to hang out and die... I am thinking I might just make that room into a tomb. My farms provide enough food if people use them properly, but I have a hard time using them properly. Despite having lots of platinum, I don't have a smelter so can't really sell it yet. It seems that mostly fishdwarves are coming, which si OK except I don't need teh food (the bone/shell is nice and I have started crafting a bit).

I am no longer in danger of starving.

I think the economy is broken still. No one is manning my shops and all my rooms are too expensive. You'd think if almost every bedroom is high quality they wouldn't all cost thousands still. My guys are too skilled to sell things to each other.

I'm expecting the economy to start in my fortress as soon as my next wave of immigration hits. [b}I've minted like 4 different types of coins total so far. I have no idea how much is enough.[/b] I do suspect that the rooms I currently have provided for my dwarves are too expensive for their jobs, so I will likely need to create more rooms with less stuff in them.
According to the bay12 Forum it was coins with the worth 2500.
But as now things seem to be somehow different (my economy getting started wihtout myself having minted a single coin) the question is if this still holds true for this version.

Unexpectedly discovered an underground river today while digging for my new mall.
It is almost entirely free of monsters, except of a single cave crocodile. What a contrast to the hordes of olm-men and frog-men my last underground river (in another fortress) harbored

Yes, that is something that wondered me, too.
My mayor/broker bought my first shop (a clothes store) but never showed up there despite there being enough times where he had no job. However dwarves would come to the shop and go shopping, according to the jobs list, so I am not sure if this isn´t totally normal (i.e. shops needing no shop keeper)

As for the prices of rooms. My rooms (3*3 tiles, single bed, no other furniture) only cost around 30-50. Sounds like a normal price for me.
Could it be that the stuff in your rooms is of highest quality? I assume that it will drive the prices up if you put masterpieces or high quality stuff in your rooms.

Plans? I've not yet needed plans and I have every workshop built.

That is ok, just stop their ability to fish and give them useful stuff to do. They will soon level up in whatever you assign them (unless its hauling, in which case sucks to be them)!
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

Mine were bought then sold and now no one has bought them since or sold anything through them. They are dirt cheap too say compared to a bed room.

This is a basic room without any real furniture. It might have some masterpiece engravings in it however.

My dwarves have money but not anywhere near to afford that. Something is seriously out of wack. Perhaps the economy needs to be reworked. I'm thinking you should also start with one already going too.

This already begins with the selection of the site for my outpost.
I try to choose it with the correct sedimentary layers that give me a chance on valuable materials (like platinum or gold) and also contains some high hills (it looks as if you have an easier time finding valuable gems in high mountaineous areas than in lowlands).

As for actually finding the minerals/gems:
Normally I first discover them by chance, when I dig around to build up my fortress. And when I found them it is often rather easy ti find more. Gold for example is found in veins, meaning that I have to just dig along the run of the vein. For other materials (like platinum) you can be sure that there is more in the vicinity, so after I find platinum at one level, I will try to find more on the same level.

Till how I didn´t have many troubles with finding enough precious metals/gems by just expanding my fortress (although later I will make some exploratory digs in levels I haven´t used for my fortress till now, maybe I will find further treasures in them )

Yes, I agree, 7k is a lot of money
Maybe exceptionally made engravings de facto increase the price by a large amount.

What is the material of the floor and walls btw?
I know from my own fortress that it, too has a great influence on the worth of rooms.
My dungeon master sits in an office that just has rough walls a smoothed floor and contains only a table and 2 chairs.
Nevertheless it is called throne room (and is therefore more worth than any other office), because around 1/4 of the floor and walls consists of native gold

This is the lowest level so far. It is a started living quarters (I like the fact that they are starting to sleep together though, it means I need less beds).

First time that my guy didn't go crazy and kill people (guy with a fey mood.. I am sure the other guys were just stuck cause they didn't have a strange mood and no one uses that room). He built a Artifact Sandal though... (tanner)

The Legendary Miner got there the old fashion way. I lost the fey mood Mason to insanity (I didn't know I could start building metal bars.. and he wanted some). And the guy who made the artifact coffin (wtf?) was possessed.

BTW, what does the artifacts do?

They just sit there in the inventory of their creators,
whioch also could mean that they slow them considerably slow.
You said that one of your artifacts is a coffin,
well, imagine his creator always carrying this coffin with him

They also can be theme of engravings.
My leader created a microcline grate as an artifact(well, she seems to be a grate fetischist, according to her profile she likes grates and also often mandates them to be build [and also forbids their export] )
And since then my engravers often picture a dwarf raising a microcline grate

How do you get your leader to increase bookkeeping/etc? Also, how do you get appraise... because since my Leader is my best Mason/Mechanic/Architect... I would sort of want someone else to do the Broker/Dealing stuff (especially since the Liason killed 3 of my dwarves the first time and I killed him the second time (it was a brave dwarf who killed him, although he died of thirst over the winter when all the water sources froze up.. I even dug to one that was running longer (I think that there is an aquifer somewhere, but I didn't find it in time)).

In this there are some that are doing stuff that isn't what they are listed as (I don't have 3 engravers). I think I might put a little too much into food, but they are the ones who carry stuff around also. I think that now that I have a forge (2!) that I should start making armor/weapon/metal smiths. I have lots of platinum and a couple other ores (which all give Iron).

Appraise = Trading (this also increases several of the dwarves social skills.

And for Book-Keeping you have to set the settings of the bookkeeper to somethhing higher than the lowest precision (nobles-menu, selecting the bookkeeper and then choosing s for settings)
This way he will spend some time in his office (which you hopefully have assigned to him) and update the stocklpile records.
