It's always been known -- and indeed is a feature of DirectX -- that if your hardware can't support something, it is approximated with software emulation (which is slowwww).

The thing is, games like Bioshock and Crysis are DX9 games with a handful of DX10 shaders. Running most of it in DX9 native with the odd shader in emulation mode is possible, but not particularly smart and not indicative of true DX10 games.

Try it under DX9 in vista if you want to get better framerates.

Aha, the performance wasn't at all shabby. I ran the demo at Medium settings and got an enjoyable experience. After reading some of the online stuff I was fearing a slideshow on medium. Gotta see if my rig can handle 2xAA as well, not having AA is sad.

Then again, while Crysis does look good here, it's by no means stunning at Medium.

The AI is good but it's not great. If you really play smart you can frequently abuse it's inability to path find. As a player you can get in lots of nooks and crannies or other locations the AI won't get close or move to fast. I guess sometimes they will toss a grenade but usually you can kill them before it comes to that.

I agree. I think even turning the shaders from high to medium is almost as bad.

Like a slideshow. There's a considerable difference in graphics quality, yeah, but looks like High is out of the question without a series 8 card.

I have kept an eye on that one, but I'll wait buying it until we get more news about the new 8800 GTS card
The 8800 GT is almost as good as 8800 GTX, but at half the price

If I failed to kill one of them with a shot, or they cried out (happens sometimes with a pistol) then the others react, but the crumpling body with a bullet in its head doesn't seem to cause any alarms.

There from North Korea, an anonymous bullet to the back of the head is nothing special to them. I’m sure they just figured he didn’t peal enough potatoes at mess duty.
