  • Crysis Demo

Just so you all are aware, the demo will be released about 19 hours from the time of this post.

    www.crysisdemo.com has the countdown timer.

www.incrysis.com for more info on the demo and stuff.

The demo contains the first level and the editor and some other unknown surprise. The first level is about 45 minutes long.

The full release will be out on the 13th of November.

Those who preordered the game via EA, were allowed to download the game about 12-24 hours ago, they were unable to play the game due to some restrictions based on the activation on the key (EA purposely did this), but some have learned they can play the game using the editor to some extent. They talk about picking up chickens and throwing them at enemies to stun them, they also say picking up live crabs is possible and from the sounds of it -- looks like a lot of fun.

I can't wait to start on the editor myself, I'm hoping to recreate the 1st Half Life. Hoping its possible.

The download is about 1.4gig if I remember correctly.

So I'm playing the demo on what I like to think is a fairly decent gaming rig...

        Intel Core 2 Quad @ 2.9GHz
        4GB 1066MHz DDR2 RAM
        GeForce 8800 Ultra @ 675MHz
        SoundBlaster X-Fi

Running it at 1440x900, with settings on High and the latest beta drivers for Crysis...I'm getting 20fps average. Brutal performance, and the graphics don't look nearly as good as the press screenshots

The timer still shows 3 hours, but I downloaded it last night... installing now

          And I didn't pre-order

Currently I have a crappy card, so I don't have any expectations on how good it runs and how great it looks

So far so good... running most on medium (a few on high) at 1024*768, runs at ~20 fps and looks better than expected. This is with GF 7900 GT

The demo is fun, but does have some weird errors. I just threw a heavy pot (filled with flowers) into the water, but it didn't sink. And throwing crabs into the water kills them (and leaves the floating too)

I just spent a few minutes on a boat trying to destroy a building. From the boat it didn't look like anything was destroyed, but as I got back on land there wasn't much of the house left

Do you have a physix card? I'm assuming they use that for Crysis, curious if it affects framerates much or any ...

No, but I'm pretty sure a quad-core @ 2.9GHz can do physics faster than the current weak AEGIA ones.

For those of you, who HATES advertising when starting the game, here's a solution:

[q=GameSport - Huntail]Go to the directory that you installed Crysis, go to Game->Localized->Video and delete (or move or rename) everything except bg.sfd. You should go to the main menu directly.[/q]

Unfortunately the usual "Press ESC to cut the c***** advertisment" doesn't work

Use r_displayinfo = 1 to check FPS. It seems to run mostly smooth for me on all high settings(1024*768, no AA). Q6600@3.42ghz, 8800GTS, 4GB, Vista 64. The thing is the FPS go as low as the teens but it doesn't feel that choppy compared to what it says the FPS are. The gameplay seems superb. Medium shaders looks a LOT worse than high .

There seems to be a problem with the shadows. When you're using cloak, you still cast a shadow... doesn't this give a problem in MP?

It's possible to beat the mission without using one single bullet. Using stealth and strength I managed to kill them all (except those who's on the boat) on hard. I wonder if it will be possible to beat the game like that

Looks like a real resource hog - am going to have to wait for next upgrade I think.
