          Their website doesn't recognize Flashplayer in Opera. If this is indicative of their prowess...

            Maybe it's your computer.

              Oh, its definitively my computer. They recommend 2GB of RAM, but I have only 1. And they recommend a GeForce 7800 GTX or higher and I only have a 7600 GT. All the settings are maxed out. I'll have to tweak them a bit. But I have to say that the Aurora engine never looked so good.

                Well, I got it to work smoothly. So far so good. They really did wonders with the Aurora engine. It looks a lot better than Neverwinter nights. The setting is a bit generic, but there are some nice twists here and there. A very nice action RPG so far.

                  100MB on day one? Not sure if this is good or bad. Anyway bought it, patched it and then got distracted by a game of Planescape I'm half way through. Might try it tonight though.

                    Well, they're using a very different version of the the Aurora engine. No wonder it looks so much better than Neverwinter Nights. No, its not Crysis, but it looks fairly good, overall.

                    The Witcher is powered by a new version of the BioWare Aurora Engine, modified for a single-player experience. A number of changes have been introduced to the original BioWare Aurora Engine, and some of them are described below.

                    World visualization

                    One of the most important features of the Aurora Engine is how the developers design the game world, and then implement that design into the final game. In BioWare's Aurora Engine the world is designed exactly as it was envisioned rather than using a tile-based system. All the environments are developed in 3ds Max and then exported into the game engine. As a result, developers can create unique game worlds, rather than recycling the same tiled objects over and over again.

                    * Light maps

                    CD Projekt's version of the engine supports lightmaps generated in 3ds Max. Shadows generated this way are reported to look more realistic, and provide better game performance.

                    * Texture paint

                    This is a special tool that allows the developer to paint the environment using custom textures. This enables the developer to make the game world truly unique.

                    * Skybox and water effects

                    New realistic skyboxes and water effects designed specifically for The Witcher were added to the engine.

                    Rendering

                    All the in game and tool set rendering is done using DirectX9, and the engine now supports many different shaders (water effect, bump mapping, environment mapping, etc). Additionally the whole rendering system has been unified and a new light manager was added.

                    Other changes

                    Other important changes include the following: motion-captured animation, physics effects, new mechanics and combat system. There are also many other modifications, like introduction of portals, additional graphical effects (glows, advanced dynamic shadows, blurs)

                      So let us know how it is after you've either finished or at least got a lot of play time in it. The idea interested me a lot when I first heard about it, but the later info about game play has turned me off a bit. I'm not sure if I want to get this one now.

                        Big, big Intro..couple of minutes later you get to the actual game.

                        Looks very nice with everything maxed out. The first combat is a very simple intro in which i completely failed to hit anything. It says left click to attack but not a lot happened - my character just stood there poised. Changing camera mode means that left click becomes move. Need to read the manual a bit more perhaps.

                        Annoyingly none of the keys are listed. You have to go into the setup to see what options are available. The manual just keeps referring to hot keys without naming any. I hope its not going to be one of these manuals with 70+ pages that tell you nothing useful.

                          I prefer the over the shoulder camera mode.

                          Combat isn't like Diablo. Its not a click fest. You click once on the guy you want to attack and your character attacks him.

                          You also have to make sure to use the right type of combat style. Otherwise, your character doesn't attack. With some opponents, you have to use the Strong style, with others the Fast style, etc.

                          You also have to make sure to click again when the standard sword icon changes in a flaming sword icon. This will trigger special moves.

                            I like it a lot (as does my GF). The combat took a lot of getting used to, but it works well enough eventually. It's a bit 'slow' (have to walk everywhere so far) but there's plenty of interesting story lines to pursue. And other things...

                              here's a thread discussing both games. It does look interesting, and something I'll eventually get. I may ask for it on christmas.

                                Too early to tell, since I'm still stuck at the first level. But I like it so far.

                                Oh, and BTW

                                Spoiler:
                                The Beast won't go down without a fight. He's a tough mother****er...
