Edit for your bizarre edit: You're going to have to be more specific, I liked the other post better.
Asheron's Call had episodic content monthly since 1998.

LOTRO has it every other month.

    Sam & Max also..

Long story short, no this is not new, and no it is not exclusive to PCs.

Whatever. You can think of like three examples prior to this year. Arguing it's not new is stupid.

I can think of it being done as early as 1998. I'm not sure how you can say it is new when I can point out specific examples that date back nine years.

          whoosh!

It's more effective when you pair that comment with the one from the prior paragraph, where he lamblasts me for not seeing the "big picture".

You only gave 2 examples from before 2007...and they certainly were not as high profile as half life or mass effect.

Eh, you did a good enough job, without me piling on

It was a rather tired joke I threw out anyway, I'm surprised that he didn't get it. OTOH, maybe not...

Half-Life's wasn't in 2007. And sn00py's comment wasn't about HL. It was about Portal.

HL2 had planned episodic content in 2004.

It's a VERY smart idea and one I think will catch on in the future of gaming, especially PC gaming.

Episodes I don't think had caught on by 2004. They still have not caught on in 2007. This is not a big deal, I did not mean to drag this out, but in the original context snoopy's post is defensible.

Based on Valve's latest hit, Portal: The Flash Version brings it all up in 2d!

Why the hell would I be talking about Portal when the episodes are obviously for HL2?

And I knew Episode 1 was in discussion in 2004, I played it the week it was released. (probably your one sided brain is going to interpret that as me having played it in 2004, if it did, I suggest you learn to use the other side more).

I think I need to be more clear regarding my comment on episodes being more popular in the future. 1st, I wasn't talking about Episode 1 or 2 because I am fully aware they were long in production and already released. 2nd, it ISN'T popular; if it were popular, it would be common practice, but it isn't, developers create either addons and/or sequels.

                          • The problem is, sn00py, it is popular but you just didn't know about it. It's one of the areas where single-player games are taking a book from MMORPGs, which have been doing it (popularly) for about a decade now.

How are add-ons fundamentally different from content "add-ons" like HL EP1 and EP2?

Add Ultima Online, near monthly content additions since 1997.
