These people should be tested medically. Maybe there's some rare property of their eyes that allows them to distinguish those, who knows. Just like I used to run my monitor at 60 Hz forever and never knew, I can't tell the difference between that and 80.

Not yet, but I don't see it as a game-specific problem. Even the onscreen keyboard and Wii menus are rather irratic in their control -- and RE4 was certainly also.

The Wiimote is essentially gyroscopic control. When you think about it, the paradigm is identical in 2D manipulation as a control stick -- though it is less reliable a control scheme.

          • There was one guy I believed when he told me that. The reason he could tell is he gets motion sickness from playing video games unless the refresh rate is at least 75-80, so he has to set his monitor refresh rate up and keep the framerate up as well to avoid vertigo. I can see that being an indicator.

            • Strangely enough, I never get motion sickness when playing myself, but can get it when watching others play FPS games. I once started feeling really sick just after a couple minutes of watching a person play Quake 2 for some reason.

              • I used to be able to tell the difference between 60 Hz and 85 Hz on my old CRT monitor, in that my eyes got very sore on the lower setting. I couldn't tell it from just glancing at the monitor, but after a few minutes I could.

Anyway, Portal. A brilliant game with a great sense of humour. I've completed it twice now, the second time with the commentary, and I'll have a go at the advanced puzzles soon. I have the credits song on infinite loop in my playlist and
