Perhaps it entertains you longer than me, but I get tired when the solution to every problem is the same:..."Oh, I need to use physics

When should you not use physics in a FPS?

Because it's clear you haven't played many others. BioShock, for instance, is a much better game across the boards.

I think you know what I mean, and if you don't, it's still not worth responding to seriously.

My bioshock review in Bioshock(in hiku(sp) format)

          Bioshock, fun at start
          Ressurection chambers, oy
          They were off their gord

Bioshock was "eh". Cool in some places but the ressurection chambers completley ruined the drama of the game. Its hard to be afraid or scared or play "smart" when you can respawn forever. It also suffers from consolitis, i.e. every console FPS will be a series of mostly tiny rooms, which always irks me. They finally added some large areas at the end but much of the game I felt like I was in a hampster maze.

The ressurection chambers made it more of a chore to finish, then fun, as you got near the end.

          I also... *spoiler alert*

Also hated the ending. It feels like cheating in a story to take advantage of the fact of course the PLAYER does not know their background because its a game and then make it turn out you have no memories..... when you should of known that the entire game.

Sounds like my review of Bioshock... I never managed to finish it, got too boring. I hated running around in a "mace" killing the same enemies constantly. Not to mention the fact that the areas where not only the same, but very boring too...
This space is empty... or is it?

To be fair, Portal has got some very good comments from others i've read that do play a lot of games (like Tim of CAD). To be fairer though, a three hour game cannot be game of the year.

Perhaps the 25 hour replayable MP version might be though

It can be game of the year, IF IF IF we take "length" out of the equation .

Once we add the expected length of a game to the equation, it takes it's score down a bit heh.

Ignore Asher, Vesayen, he just doesn't like Half Life and its siblings. Talk about how great Halo is though, and he'll agree with you. He's not biased.

Halo is an over rated piece of elephant excrement.

I felt like I was playing a poorer version of halflife, 5 years after halflife came out.

                      I loved the original Half-Life. HL2, I didn't like.

                        Half-Life (1) was good.

                        Half-Life (2) is bad.

                        Halo 1/2/3 are good.

Why is HL2 bad? Because the pace was too slow, the plot couldn't get me interested, EP1 had EXCESSIVE amounts of "plot" given how boring it was, all of the "puzzles" involved using the physics system to solve, etc. Gabe Newell is a bit of a child in a lot of ways, he gets fixated on one aspect of something and beats it to death.

Half-Life and Halo are not to be compared. Half-Life is more of a platformer FPS, Halo is more of a social FPS. Very different games, something that is obvious if you've ever played them both at any reasonable length.

GOTY has to appeal to a large group of people (most people who play games). Game length is rather important for many people, so a 3 hour game is unlikely to be GOTY, even if many people think it's the most enjoyable 3 hours they've played in a long time

Halo and HL2 sure are extremely different. But you should note that HL2 is bad in your opinion. It's the best-reviewed game ever, I believe, and had such levels of acclaim that very few games can match. So it's safe to say that most loved it.

Half-Life 2 is #8 on the list, behind Halo at #7.
