There's still a good game inside as it was a year ago, but Obsidian is obviously either not willing, not able or doesn't get the money to make it shine. It might even be, that it can't be done. The user interface and the game performance were and still are the weakest points, and even a brilliant game can be thoroughly ruined if game control is bad and it runs like a pig.

I think I'm going to fire it up tonight. The thing holding back right now is I'm too lazy to look for the CD .

I wish you more fun with it than I had a few days ago.

But then, I'm in a gaming crisis anyway. I even dug out Guild Wars out of pure desparation (saw Jamski there on a regular basis, but didn't talk to him). I don't own either of its expansions and, truth to be told, didn't understand a damn thing of what people are talking about. It's still an excellent game, if you play it solo. Bah. Age of Conan will be coming out soon, but the writings on the wall tell me, that it will suck.

patches installed correctly, I guess. I have some serious graphical issues.

I hope I can resolve this. As above, I really want to like this game. Though character creation can be daunting (took me like 20 mins ). There are so many choices. I chose sun elf wizard. Wrote out a history and everything.

I get all excited for the game, then this.

edit: updating video drivers now, see if that does anything. game is unplayable now. It was playable at one time when I first bought it, just seemed sluggish. I have an ATI Radeon 9600 series. I think I saw a splash screen that they recommend nvidia. oh well.

updating to new ati drivers causes the game not to start. I get the initial pop up screen, hit play game, then nothing.

This game is going on the shelf. Maybe I'll give it another try when I build a new system next year using an nvidia card.

Now I hope civ4 runs with the new driver. I think I was using old drivers with civ4 for a reason (I think I remember having some problem with new drivers).

What's your CPU Dis? If it's an AMD there's actually a separate exe for AMD CPUs in the NWN2 folder that made the game run better for me. Of course I didn't have any problem like the one in your screenshot.

First off - glad you finally cracked on GW and fortunately I'm far too mature to say I told you so.

You should join Req (with Jamski and me, though I'm inactive atm) - it would be fun.

Secondly (you're not going to like this part so prepare yourself) the best games coming out at the moment are Xbox 360 games, and it was those I was referring to.

hmm, how do you roll back drivers? I can't remember. I can't even play world of warcraft. not that I was intending on playing- honest . Just wanted to see how a game would run with the new drivers. I'll try civ4 now.

I get an error message to make sure direct x9.0c is installed and drivers are up to date.

edit: civ4 doesn't work. guess all my games are unplayable now. time to get rid of those drivers.

re-edit: can't roll back drivers- it asks to put in a cd, I am putting in my ati cd, but it can't find a file. going to have to try some other stuff I guess.

Interesting thing when I updated drivers in the first place, it asked if I wanted to replace English(canada) files with English(u.s.) files. My original ati cd is canadian. So I'm going to have to blame canada for this.

You should be able to uninstall the drivers in Add/Remove Software, then install the ones you want. You should ALWAYS uninstall them prior to installing new ones.

the website has their older drivers. I believe the newest one is 7.7, so I went with 7.6 which seems to be working I think.

I still get those green boxes, but I think that's a drag window that you can use to highlight multiple things at once maybe? I'm not sure. The game is loaded up, and the starting video came up and I can see the screen now. I just don't know how to move . I'm so used to world of warcraft. So I will attempt to move now.

argh this interface is frustrating. esp since I played so much world of warcraft. I'm dying to be able to move the camera with the mouse, but I can't seem to. Right clicking brings up a menu. I turned off left click to move, but left clicking on the ground still moves my character.

only keys that seem to control the camera are my arrow keys, page up/down, home/end, delete/insert.

the original game had 3 camera modes, but I can'd any of them in the options screen. I want to play this game, but it's difficult with the camera the way it is now.

the camera changed in that those original modes are gone now and replaced with character and strategy modes. the "*" key switches between them and the option are under character and strategy.

Comb the nwn2 forums, some help i think.

this isn't so bad, okay it is.

I think even with the original NWN I usually kept it in the same camera angle unless I had to rotate it to see something. But that was because I was used to playing BG2 and used to a 2d view. Now I'm used to playing world of warcraft the camera control is quite difficult. I still haven't found how to activate a chase mode to see how that is. I think that's what wow uses (as you are alway staring at your chars ass). But the zoom and pitch is independant of char movement in wow (at least the way I have it set up), only the angle remains so you are always staring at your backside.

BTW the Z key highlights clickable objects. But if a wall is in the way, you can't see the object. Yes I'm still in the first room on the tutorial . had to rotate the camera so I could see the chest. I have to hit ctrl then arrow keys to rotate camera, though I will change that so I don't have to hit control, but it's still annoying to have to use the keyboard to rotate camera. I don't mind moving the camera left and right with the mouse (this is similar to BG2), I just want to rotate left and right using the mouse, but keymapping won't let me do this.
