And I can't think of another poster who has been so spectacularly wrong in his tech predictions.

        Might try that one.

        Never heard of it.

        - Call of Duty 2 (I'm playing it now on PC and its fun, but boy do I suck )
I own it, and COD3. They are OK, but I got bored quickly.

        - Rainbow 6 Vegas
Own it already. Good, but GRAW2 is better.

And what's the word on the last Splinter Cell game? Chaos theory was very good, but I don't know if Double Agent is any good.
Own it. It's not bad. I was playing it again last week. Then I bought C&C3, since I am too lazy to wait for the Mac version to come out. It's pretty good and works well on the console (much better than BFME2).

I also have: Kameo; Fight Night 3; NHL 07; PGR3; Perfect Dark Zero; Lost Planet; Marvel Ultimate Alliance; BF2; Saint's Row; Test Drive Unlimited; and Dead Rising.

Settlers of Catan is the computer version of the classic strategy board game of the same name. Brian Reynolds and Big Huge Games designed the Xbox 360 version.

Mass Effect isn't a shooter, it's a Bioware RPG (same company as Knights Of The Old Republic). It does look to be upping involvement in combat compared to games like KOTOR and its D20ish system, but Mass Effect also looks to have plenty of other stuff, including a real-time conversation system where you can interrupt people - or not - and generally have to interact with NPCs in real-time. (In case you couldn't tell, I'm excited about this game. If there's anything that could convince me to get a 360, I think this might be it. Price tag is still too high for me though.)

As DrSpike says, Bioshock isn't a "traditional" shooter. Much more in the line of Looking Glass's old stuff like Thief and System Shock. It definitely still is shooter-oriented though.

Anyway, 360 does have some interesting stuff, especially after the year is out. Mass Effect, Bioshock, Assassin's Creed, Settlers of Catan... it definitely has the most games that I'm interested in of the three new systems. (I believe Bioshock and Assassin's Creed are coming to the PC as well. I'm not about to have a comp that can run them for several years, though.)

MS definitely seems to be the most shooter-heavy of the systems though. Which I find somewhat ironic when it's Nintendo that has the new Wiimote, but I suppose it comes down to branding (and graphics) more than control systems...

I might try that if it is on XBLA. The only game I ever bought of XBL was Gauntlet, for sentimental reasons.

I forgot to add Lost Odyssey and Too Human. Both highly anticipated rpgs coming of the 360. Though, I think Too Human's release date got pushed back to early 08.

Yup, and with Dirt and Forz 2 out, and PGR4 on the horizon it looks strong for driving games too.

Sports are also catching up, with several high profile title out now or over the next year.

Overall there are quite a few shooters but the line-up is pretty balanced, and much stronger than the PS3s. Counterbalancing that, the Xbox line-up equally close to release was of similar quality.

The problem with the PS3 is its price and lack of current games. If it manages to keep approximate pace month by month with the 360 (which it is doing so far), then it will overtake it once the price comes down, because it is a much better console.

The 360 lacked games when I bought mine, and that was about 4 or 5 months after release.

In May the 360 outsold the PS3 by about 2 to 1 in the US. Yes, PS3 is about keeping pace with 360 in terms of months from launch, but 360 was supply constrained for months, and PS3 has not been since the first month. That would hardly bode well for the PS3 being able to maintain that position. Yes, they will have a price cut at some point, but so will the 360.

I can't speak to the technical superiority issues.

From what I understand, it takes developers some time in a console generation to take full advantage of technology. So it certainly cant be ruled out that PS3 will recover, but I have a hard time seeing it doing so anytime soon.

Apparently 360 sales are tanking due to the bad publicity.

And who would want to buy a 360 right now? I believe MS has basically admitted that the 360s on store shelves may be as liable to break as the many they've sold already.

It'll be interesting to see if sales pick up once the chip redesign is reliably in stores. Problem is, the old ones will have to actually sell, unless MS takes them back.

                              Yes.

I guess it is a testament to the lack of innovation coming from Sony and Microsoft. Their latest consoles are pretty much the same as the last ones, except with more juice.

The Xbox 360 is only doing slightly better than the original Xbox at the same point in its lifespan.

It must be nice at Nintendo board meetings... everyone smiling like they just got head.

I'm still not convinced the Wii will have that much staying power in the upcoming years, as more and more folks purchase High Definition TVs... and as the 360 and PS3 fall in price. Wii is a good cheap alternative with an interesting control system, but I think if the other consoles were at the same price point, the Wii wouldn't be outselling them.
