For me it the missions where you have to attack over water has always been easier. It's much easier to protect your cities (and the AI attacks later than on land maps), while the AI is not good at protecting itself (even on hardest)

It's a shame they never made a MP version of CtW. Could have been fun
This space is empty... or is it?

I usually didnt build Ships at all. Thanks to the low RoF of Ships and decent speed of Landunits on Water, Invasions were swift.
Providing you had a decent Amount of Units, which was almost certain as you wasted no Resources on Ships

That said, in certain Circumstances (heavily fortified/small Island) Shore Bombardement was useful, but only in later Ages.
Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!

Looks like I disagree with pretty much everyone in this thread

I thought that this was a great game, and would still gladly pay $50 to buy it.

LOTM, do you want to try multiplayer some day in the future? Note that there are very small maps to play, so we can play a game quickly.

Finished my first (?) CTW campaign. I liked it, I really liked it. Now Im not wild about it like with Civ, or even AOE. But its definitely a good game, if not great, and not perhaps what I wanted (the definitive "Civ in real time")

Ive probably played more than 50 hours, and it would have been a worthwhile game even if it had cost me $30.

I really did like the way the TB and RT aspects interwove in CTW. I suspect theres potenially more strategic depth there than I reached, though its "abstract" depth, not "history sim" depth, and so didnt draw me in that much.

Abstract depth is more important though.
