I found Conquer the World to be a great game mode and easily the most fun part of the game.

I always like the Americans because the gun infantry would automatically set up - forgot how they're termed - palisades or other obstacles as a shield.
I never know their names, But i smile just the same

Of course it isn't a ripoff. What else (non-game) can you get for $5?

as info, I got it for $10(US). Ive had several hours of fun with it, and am eager to try a few more skirmishes, and then to do the campaign.

Note, I dont have the Xpack, so no Americans.

actually I also had the problem of forgetting to pause, which made it harder than it should have been at this level. What it needs of course, is what the Paradox games have, where it pauses on certain triggers, unless you disable them. Basically you define your own turns.

I tend to bounce up and down on the pause button all the time in RTS.

The game is pretty uninspiring but worth $5 or $10.

$5 would be ok, $10 is way too much.

Kudos to BHG for the free demo, by the way. Saved me 5 dollars.

Yeah. I can't imagine playing RoN for any length of time. I really, really hate game that you play for a couple hours then forget about them forever. why buy them in the first place, just dilutes your attention and wastes your time.

                      Different strokes Wiglaf

For instance, I dont judge anyone's gaming desires, but can not get into theses so called Role Playing games, not my cup O'Tea.

I really enjoy some shooters, some RTS but most TBS Civilization style.

last night i played on moderate difficulty, as Nubians, diplo-allowed game, on "north atlantic" map.

Im getting well on my way to 10 hours of play, which to me justifies a $10 game. Its fun, in an AOEish kind of way. And lets one see what certain marginally civish improvements (civics tech, ruins/goody hut. special resources, etc) do to that kind of game. With the many options for play, I could easily play several more skirmishes just to minimally explore the options. And then Id like to try the conquer the world thing at least once, and Id like to see what the modding community has done (some of the player made scenarios/campaigns for the first AOE were terrific)

I doubt this will go on my list of all time greats, and yeah, I think Brian Reynolds should have been capable of more (apparently some folks think ROL WAS better, from a RTS genre POV, but im not interested enough to try it) but a waste of money, not at all.

Yeah, I actually justified 10 hours of play for a 50$ game for a while (hey, that is just a light nights drinking!).

Currently I want more bang for my buck. That is also why I like MMOs, sure you pay 15$ per month, but I play 10 hours per week (often more) so it is worth it. Currently I am trying to adjust my life, so have cancelled all mine (one was on a long set, so I will be able to play it though august).

IMHO Conquer the World was the most interesting playing mode...
