I dont play THAT much, ive never played one game all that intensely to become an expert, the one game i played most intensely was Civ2, but this is like the last place to proclaim oneself an expert on THAT, and besides Ive last played it years ago.

In the Avalon Hill Game 1914

1. Do you play with the basic rules, or the advanced rules for fog of war, eastern front, extended campaign, etc?

2. Should the German player assume the allied player will deploy (ahistorically, but logically) all along the Franco-Belgian frontier, and if so, how should he differ from the historical German plans to counter, or should he?

3. What do you think of the event cards as a model of to handle "alt history" questions in a historical game?

I have not played every obscure game ever made and as I said earlier, only electronic games, focusing on PC specifically.

You think 1914 was obscure? IIUC it was THE game that made James Dunnigan influential, and it was not long afterwards that he left AH to cofound SPI.

BTW, nobody's called out the trick question on my list.

LOTM, was not the game 1941 on maybe Nintendo?

Like a bunch of aircraft fighting each other?

I believe me and my children had this game during latter 1980's

Never really got into 1914 but its quite hard to make a WW1 game interesting considering the static nature generally of the western theatre.


My question...Will we ever see a decent version of the AH Squad Leader game on the PC or has the moment past?

standup - the game takes place from the beginning of August 1914 to either early September, or IIRC late October, depending on whether you play the basic or advanced game. IE the period when the western front was still quite fluid.

There is VASL, which allows you to play ASL online pretty easily

it requires you to know the rules, and requirse two people, but other than that it is pretty nice... well, as far as being just the board game

Forgive me LOTM, I was sure I saw 1941, my bad
