no, it can't play dvds. (though it seems that will be addressed sooner than later).

edit: you can use the sd slot. not pretty, but a far cry from "any and all " etc.

Take the hint. It's a Winamp 5.5 issue, and not a PS3 issue nor is it "how PS3 does streaming". If you don't believe me, go post what you posted on AvsForum or any other site about that and watch people lash at you also for propagating fundamental misunderstandings that a 2 second google search would have addressed.

You take the hint: The world doesn't revolve around you. You might have more knowledge than me, and I doesn't doubt that you are right on the technicalities. But this is what was shown me when I installed WinAmp 5.5 and which is why I tested it:

I don't care for your reasons for installing Winamp. Your reasoning in this thread was ridiculous, totally wrong, and something you could have EASILY googled for 2 seconds to figure out.

Are you referring to the photo channel?

The Wii isn't a media player. Yes, it has a photo viewer that works for SD cards -- that's not a media player.

Can you watch movies on the thing, or play your MP3/AAC files?

Please don't waste our time with semantical dribble. The Wii has no media player. It has a photo channel...

I have a Wii, I like my Wii, but I have no desire to use it as a media center. It just wasn't designed to do that. And it's not really fair to say something is bad because it doesn't perform a function it wasn't designed to do. That'd be like me complaining my 360 doesn't vacuum the carpets well enough

I'm merely pointing out that this is not the first time you've waltzed into a thread and made a bald assertion completely unsupported by reality. If you're curious about media streaming functionalities of the consoles, may I point you to Google before making ridiculous claims such as:

lets not move the goal posts, alright?

external media can be used on the wii through the photo channel, as well as some games such as Excite Truck using the sd as a custom soundtrack.

Is this a useful way of doing things? No, but I wasn't claiming that it was, I was merely refuting your point.
