I told it to transcode to MPEG-4, that's all. Then I view them like I do WMP remotely on the 360/PS3.

Yes, but there's also straight MPEG-4 (and no variant thereof).

I agree this is a valid issue for this thread.
Why is it any more valid than me *****ing that the Wii doesn't work with iTunes?
The issue is with the software, not with the consoles.
It's not a console issue, it's not a gaming issue, I don't see its relevance here. If you wish to discuss winamp issues, there's a forum for that.

It's valid because even accepting your claim that all consoles can stream all media in theory (which I don't dispute but you have been known to overplay your case once or twice in the past ) in practice it might be different - it could be easier or harder to set up across consoles for instance, or work better or worse. That would make it a relevant issue for this thread.
Kuci is reasonably into all this stuff (one of his first posts was about streaming media when he got his Xbox) and still it would seem your post is news to him. So like Nikolai says I think you need to get your head out of your ass a bit and pass on some of your knowledge in a more friendly way. Or if you can't manage that let others discuss it.
Again, I would be happy to discuss media streaming capabilities of consumer electronics.
But this is not appropriate for:
1) A thread on the console wars
2) A thread in the "Other Games" forum
This is a thread for the Technology forum. FWIW, streaming to the Wii is far more difficult than the 360/PS3 because it was never intended for it to work -- it's a hack that usually revolves around your PC acting as a "webserver" that the Wii uses the internet browser to connect to and stream content transcoded into Flash in realtime. It's terrible.
So I will reiterate: any issues Nikolai had with a beta Winamp media server is not relevant to the console wars, nor the consoles themselves.

It's not really that black and white. If the question was how do I transcode a .blah in real time into a .bleh using transcoder2000 then fine.
But for most of us just knowing how user friendly the setup for each console is is also useful information. That seems entirely valid to discuss here.
And (not really in line with your earlier take) you yourself just made a point about the relative capabilities of the Wii in this area. If true I fail to see how that piece of information does not belong in a thread dedicated to discussing relative merits of consoles.
The user setup is not specific to the console, but specific to the software. Thus it not being relevant to a console thread. The software is set up and installed on your PC and then has varying capabilities for each console depending on the software you use. Eg, MediaHome fully supports the 360 and PS3 but does not support the Wii in any way.
I will say this one last time: this is 100% purely a PC software discussion on the merits of mediaservers, and is not a console issue or discussion. I don't know how to make this any clearer. The fact that the Wii's CPU is too slow to decode modern video codecs isn't really relevant (nor surprising) either.
It's an interesting topic (media servers) that deserves its own thread in the technology forum, not as a threadjack in the Other Games forum (seeing as it's 100% non-game related also).

So the inherent capabilities of the consoles themselves are identical with no differences in quality? Or not? You seem to have posted both.
What? You don't seem to understand. Perhaps a bigger font will be of assistance.
What formats the consoles support for streaming depends on the PC software used. This PC software would know not to send h264 codecs to the Wii, because it simply cannot handle it. The common thread here is this is about PC software for media use, and is neither a GAMES DISCUSSION nor a CONSOLE DISCUSSION but a discussion about PC SOFTWARE. Therefore, this discussion does not belong on a GAMES FORUM in a thread about CONSOLE WARS.
If you look at his post, he's talking about using Winamp's transcoding software and how it works with the Wii but not the PS3. This clearly has nothing to do with the console capabilities themselves, but a limitation in the BETA software in Winamp's media server.
