        • You should go to Norway instead Spikie, an Expert shop in the south just confirmed they have sold a few Halo 3 games by a mistake.

I've heard talk of the demise of the PC as a gaming-rig ever since I became aware of PC-gaming (+-15 years ago). Though I've admittedly been noticing PC-releases are often secondary to consoles (if there's a PC-version at all), the PC is a standard item in the average household, whereas the presence of the TV in homes is a bit less rock-solid than it used to be.

I haven't actually pre-ordered - I've been waiting for a good online deal and nothing has sprung up yet.

The difference is very visible: http://www.tomsgames.com/us/2007/09/18/dx10_part3/

                • I'll probably be upgrading in 3 or 4 months actually. Have they fixed the Vista teething problems yet?

And (speaks quietly), out of interest only, how good is the protection that discourages you from acquiring said product through innovative means?

It seems to say that Bioshock plays better on Vista than on XP. It confirms, IIUC, that the game is playable on XP. It does NOT compare the graphics under XP to older FPS's under XP nor does it compare the graphics under XP to the graphics on the XBOX (and yes, I realize both those other comparisons are more complex that the comparison they did do)

Just why would it do that? That's a ridiculous comparison for countless reasons. The point of the article is to illustrate an advantage of DX10.

"complex" is a bad word. They are simple. They are just completely ridiculously unrelated to the point of the article, which was to demonstrate what Vista/DX10 gamers get on the same game that XP/DX9 gamers do not.

I wasnt disappointed in the article, or critical of the mag, sorry if they gave that impression.

We here were discussing whether or not one had to get an X box to play Bioshock, and how costly it is to keep up. It was asserted that to meet the specks to play it XP/DX9 werent all that costly compared to buying a 360.

Im not sure how the fact that the game looks significantly better on Vista/DX10 is relevant to that discussion, IF you had intended it to be so, which isnt clear. I forget who here disputed that point.

If Bioshock is a major advance over previous games when played on a PC with XP/DX9, and IF it looks as good on such a machine as on a 360, those would seem to be relevant. Or if it DIDNT look as good as on the 360.

                        • The article was relevant to the discussion that PC gamers can get by with a DX9 card. There are things DX10 cards can do that DX9 can't, and these simple graphical upgrades on DX9 games are just part of it.

If you want the full PC gaming experience, you need a DX10 card and Vista. That was the point.

                          • Or at least that's the new point now that the version about playing Halo 2 was shot down.
