LotM: It isn't really a productive use of any one's time to discuss Nintendo with Asher anyway. Just smile and nod while moving to more interesting pursuits.

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

US census - total households, 2000 - 105 million
360 installed sold 5.5 million
Assuming no households have bought more than one 360, or had it go bad and didnt replace it, and ignoring growth in # of households since 2000, thats less than 5.5% of the living rooms. Theyd better get going fast if they hope to "control the living room this generation". Again, assuming everyone who owns a 360 uses it as a media center to "control the living room"
Now of course it could be that MS wants Vista to control the living room, and is using the 360 to weaken Sony and keep THEM from controlling the living room. Did Sony really expect the PS3 could control the living room - they are even farther off than MS, with their lower installed base.
Im sure Asher means something different by this strategy than Im reading above, so I look forward to his explication of the strategy."A person cannot approach the divine by reaching beyond the human. To become human, is what this individual person, has been created for.” Martin Buber

It's a market that's emerging, it's not set in stone. So far MS is #1 in terms of owning the living room (in terms of content distribution), and it's continuing to grow rapidly.
Even new HD DVD/Bluray players are adding media centre-like functionalities like media streaming. Expect MS' upcoming Windows Home Server to further boost their hold on the market."The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."

how are you measuring that, number of games/songs/videos downloaded? Granted that looks like the future of media distribution, but at least right now wouldnt the kings of living room still be blockbuster, netflix, the cable companies, etc?"A person cannot approach the divine by reaching beyond the human. In some way, the cable companies are. But their impact is diminishing as the impact of digital distribution is rising. Out with the old, in with the new..."The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."

Anyway, lets stay on topic, lest others take this as an excuse to discuss personal charecteristics here."A person cannot approach the divine by reaching beyond the human. To become human, is what this individual person, has been created for.” Martin Buber
