That's a feature - it's in the legit versions too.

Not that I in any way doubt your PC skills, but how can installing a new OS take more than a few hours?

I think Vista is good overall, but some of its navigation changes from XP is a bit difficult to get used to, i'm sure it's just a matter of that tho, not a poor design issue.

Not necessary to upgrade to Vista just yet, wait a while Dis. And buy it, don't pirate it, you will have your first legal copy and it will be many years to come before you need to buy another one, say 5 or 6 years? Looks to me, in the long run, buying it will be more worth than pirating it.

But right now, you really don't need it that badly right?

The problem was getting an OS to install. Linux was ruled out when he asked "wait, I can't run IE or Word on linux?" He has a legit MCE key but we couldn't find anyone with an MCE install disk. Eventually he found someone who had an extra key for Vista Business and he used my Vista install disk.

Kinda makes sense that MS would want the Xbox ports to only run on Vista. Why would they cannibalize their 360 business, unless it was to drive up sales of their new OS?

Xbox Live Anywhere only runs on Vista also, which Vista leans heavily on (and GoW, I presume).

Gears is beatiful though. I wonder what kind of rig it will take to run it properly.

Conroe E6600, 2 gigs ram, 8800GTS video card. Or at least that's my guess. That's roughly what I think the recommended specs will be. I think that should give you just about as good a result as the 360 does in high definition.

I bet it'll work fine with 1GB RAM, actually. The 360 only has 512MB IIRC.

Yeah, but consoles can always get away with way less RAM for various reasons.

I'm going to say 1GB min specs, 2GB recommended.

Doesn't look unreasonable - an expensive rig though.

Still, in a game like Gears most of the RAM will be used for geometry and textures, no? The sizes of those shouldn't change between console and PC. Assume the OS + other apps doesn't take up more than half a gig - a reasonable assumption, since you'll probably be in fullscreen mode so other application can be paged - and you're left with the same footprint as the 360.

What? He actually wants to run IE? What a boob! Should have just let his machine sitting there dead.
