That jump is pretty much the same as what you did near the start of the game, where you had to jump onto a ladder in that elevator shaft.

I'm beginning to wonder if you've just missed the basics of jumping - in essence you get a longer jump if you i) have a run up and ii) tuck your legs in, which you can do by holding down crouch after a jump. The former is more for long jump with no obstruction and the latter is when you are tring to clear an object.
Does that help?

never mind, I did that jump before getting back to 'poly.
Yes, of course I was running before the jump. This was just a very persnickety jump, with limited space to run. less than the jump onto the elevator shaft ladder, though that too was a difficult one.
Im now trying to figure out the best way to handle the VSTOL landing area. I can get past the grunts and soldiers fighting, and then either go after the soldier in the tunnel, which exposes me to (respawning?) soldiers coming from the landing pad, or just jump right up to the big gun. If I make it that far, Im killed before I get to do anything with the big gun.
I take it I cant kill the VSTOL craft with my RPG's? Maybe with the big gun?"A person cannot approach the divine by reaching beyond the human. To become human, is what this individual person, has been created for.” Martin Buber

By the way, about tanks - if you get close to them, you can blow them with satchel charges. Though I think you're done with tanks already.
In that landing & gun area, I usually just run like hell. Run through the landing pad as hopefully the grunts will be too busy fighting the aliens. Run towards the big gun, an alien soldier pops up, you can kill him immediately with the RPG or the MP5 grenade.
I don't think you can kill the landing chopper... just blow the doors apart with the howitzer, then annihilate whomever you may see from there on the landing pad and again run like hell for that tunnel.Solver, WePlayCiv Co-Administrator

Yeah ive done pretty much that. Tried to do more blasting with the gun, but its mainly good for getting the door.
Then in the tunnel I get what seem to be endlessly respawing alien slaves. Maybe I can do something with the big gun THERE to get them to stop respawing? So far though, I arrive at the gun too weakened, and I die when ive only started to use it."A person cannot approach the divine by reaching beyond the human. I finished another replay through HL yesterday BTW. Damn it seems short now, though some parts still suck.
Hmm, you're talking about the tunnel where there's a machinegun, right? They don't respawn endlessly. Quite a lot spawn, but they will stop. You can just ignore that machinegun, stand back behind the corner and shoot them one by one, running back behind the corner before you're zapped. Rinse and repeat. Then you can finish the last few that spawn with the machinegun.Solver, WePlayCiv Co-Administrator

Ok managed to get through several more jumping puzzles, the one from the garage lift to the courtyard, from the bouncing organic looking thing to the rooftop, and from broken platform to platform, to get to where you turn a valve to get into some pipes. Ended up back at a parking garage (car park) let in my a sec guard, and now theres a huge monster there."A person cannot approach the divine by reaching beyond the human. Another Garg, right? What you do is *run like hell* through that parking garage. Just like with the first Garg, you'll have other means of killing it.
There are three Gargs in the game, I think. Two you can kill by alternative means, the third you should run away from.Solver, WePlayCiv Co-Administrator

I thought that was artillery support. After running through the garage there is a tower with a laser plotting tool
To my horror(i get spooked easily )the behemoth survived the artillery but my first rifle grenade finished him.Last edited by Kataphraktoi; September 4, 2007, 17:21.if you want to stop terrorism; stop participating in it

Yeah took me awhile to figure out how to do it right. Finally got it, now I'm into the "forget about Freeman" chapter, and up to the hot pipes swimming puzzle."A person cannot approach the divine by reaching beyond the human.
