  • You need to learn. Otherwise where will the satisfaction be when you finally beat the game, with the knowledge that means most foul were the architect of your success?

For the good of your gaming soul I urge you to go back and solve the problem properly.

I was never expecting to get satisfaction from beating the game. Is a cheat code more foul than using a walkthrough, or playing on easy or using autoaim (Which i did till i figured out what was going on - I turned it off, but I didnt go back)

I need to learn about the Sims. I could always uninstall HL, and begin playing that instead

you mean all the conveyor belt hopping. Actually that wasnt so bad. A had to do some reloading, but it made sense, and was doable.

Im now well into "Questionable Ethics" which seems somehow fitting after Spikeys comments

im now done with that and have started "Surface Tension"

                  • It seems I cant take out the chopper, no matter what I fire at it, right?

I used up all my MP5 grenades taking out the turrets, giving me one less combat option on the dam. I think the walkthroughs suggest just running for it, OTOH I could go back and replay the end the last chapter, running from the turrets instead of taking them out, and try to come out with some grenades left.

                    • Yeah you can take out choppers. You'll have to, too. Generally don't bother shooting anything else than the RPG at it, though. Choppers are pretty mean.

Don't use MP5 grenades for turrets, use regular grenades against those. Since the MP5 grenades explode on contact, they are excellent for when you're facing marines or aliens, in a tight group in particular.

i dont have any regular grenades at this point. I lost all my stuff when I was apprehended, and while Ive since found an MP5, a shotgun, a pistol, a .357, a crossbow, and even a "gauss gun" (?) i dont seem to have found any hand throwable grenades.

                          • You dont need to take out all the helos. Just ignore the early ones and save ammo Only when you get the RPG will you need to shoot most of them down
I got past them on difficult with minimal damage. I assume your on easier ground so should have no prob

                            • Ah, yes, I got to play chopper bashing amidst the cliffs. As the game was made in '98, Im thinking Valve was thinking of Afghans vs Soviets.

I later used up all my RPGs against the tanks, which wasnt so good, as hand grenades arent great against the turrets at the ordnance center. I did it over again, saving my RPGs. Now Im trying to deal with the electric tower climbing puzzle.

                              • ok, heres what I mean about this game.

First it presents with a very difficult tactical challenge. Im in the area where ive got to sneak past a tank, turn right into an alley, turn right into another alley that a turret is shooting down into, and then enter a building where there are two soldiers. Ive only got one RPG grenade left, and no other grenades. Oh, and theres a commando behind the tank, and I think another soldier in the alley. I can evade the tank shells, with difficulty but im likely to get killed by the commando, or by the turret, or else get into the building so weak that the first shot from one of the soldiers inside kills me.

Well, on my own, I figure out how to solve it. I wait in a hidden spot and ambush first the commando, then the soldier, when they run past. I find I can run in close to the tank, put mines on it, shoot the mine, and partially disable the tank. This makes it possible for me to run down the first alley virtually unmolested, then carefully run into the building before the turret hits me. This time Im going in with the crossbow, and I get both soldiers inside quickly.

                                Problem solved.

After talking to the guard, getting restocked with ammo - Ive now got to jump to the fire escape. Ive gotten to the top of the cabinet near it, and need to do the run and jump to get on the ladder. Ive tried it several dozen times and I cant seem to do it.

If any of the gentlemen here have any suggestions, I will appreciate it. Otherwise I will go ahead and noclip it, being the second time ive cheated to get around a jumping puzzle.

Repeating the same key strokes over and over until Hilary Clinton has selected her Vice Presidential designee is a suggestion that will go into the circular file.
