This was a fantastic story, and I love the little jokes and references to le Tour. One of my favourite mafia of all time, and not just because I'm biased about le Tour!

Congratulations Herc, a real tour de force.

        • Stage 5 Other Games – Fortuna Victrix

Fully convinced they had got the killer, the Tour Director - Christian Prudhomme decided the race should continue. The meal throughout the race was simple: Spam.

The next stage was set to be easy. It would be a 1.997km sprint run through the landscape of Other Games and take approximately 10 minutes.

The race carried on. As before, the riders entered their race plans into the 'Cycletron’ and donned their helmets.

It was tradition that riders passing through their home town, would as far as possible be given the honour of leading Le Tour and so it was here.

The first village en route was Hangman and Francisco had the honour as the last surviving rider. ‘U’ he shouted passing through. Leas that’s how we interpreted the gesture.

Next was Ville de Nascar, Jacques was no slouch so he (A) ed his way through and then a quick (S) (slipstream). The Ogame crowd loved it.

The peloton eased back to allow Bernard his moment of glory as he cycled through Roach Valley. Bernard was so far ahead, he had time to dismount and pay homage to a statue of Snoopy. Joane was not far behind.

Next was Galactic Overlord; hey guys this is mine said Joane and she torpedoed through the town in the lead but availing off a close in bunched team formation.

As they headed for the final stretch towards Apolyton in Nationstates, they spaced themselves out to allow for a joint victory. They crossed the line en masse, except for Eddy who just won by a nose.

            • Let me guess, I just finished as I post this. (two hours after Hercules posted that and ten minute race) According to tradition I should have won. I'm the only person left who is in Apolyton's NationStates region. So I should have been in the lead at the end.

                • Clues

                  Religious references, including Christian

                  Stage 1 Civ 3

There was a Francisco Cepeda who was a missionary……
Landis showed up wearing sweatpants because his religion forbade…..
‘Mon Dieu’ said the Tour Director………….’ The most recent Tour director is Christian Prudhomme and reference to the tour director was made at each stage.

Lance had just crested a medium category hill, when out of the blue, a Charrolais Cow (a bonus resource) appeared in his path. Being who he was, …

Lordshiva assuming he was a Hindu, would have swerved to avoids a cow.

Charrolais Cow was a play on Sheryl Crow who Lance dated for a while. ( I thought Spaced may have been a target, but you obviously thought that too obvious..

They found Lance in Bushes at the bottom……. was an obscure reference to the burning bushes re the Bible but also Lance was invited to cycle with George Bush on his ranch.

                  Eugene’s (Duke o’ York) death

His hands manacled to the handlebars and his feet to the pedals. A helmet was fastened to his head. - - -A vague hint of crucifixion.

                  Stage 2 Civ Conquests

                  Coincidently it was Ash Wednesday
                  Ah here’s the Spanish Inquisition………..

Two Jebus references. Unfortunately this time the obvious was docpiled. Anyhow Ben Kanobi was to be next mafia kill after Rah.

‘Mon Dieu, the sun’, swore Floyd and whoosh. What was once Floyd Landis on a bike was now a heap of ashes.

Joop Zoetemelk, riding well on the flat stage, intended to use his pack leader, William of Orange, on the mountain stage – the famous Mont Valenti. William of Orange was of course a famous Protestant King.

Mont Valenti was hint to Rah’s Valentines Day Celebration Thread thread, which to quote Rah ‘Since my id has been commonly associated to RA the Sun God, I thought maybe we should mock this day in deference to most organized religions.

So it was fitting that Rah was killed in both a sun godly and religious manner.

                  Ben Kanobi’s Death

At this moment Ming intervened. Greg Lemond was secured onto the pedocycle. His hands were spread out on the handlebars and fastened and his feet lashed to the pedals. He was crowned with the 3D helmet. And

Greg had been crossed out. These were crucifixion references.

                  Stage 3 CTP2

A Lot happening reference to the biblical Lot’s wife incident.

the characters they could see lining the road cheering: Slavers; lawyers, Solver, clerics, spies.
The word to look for was clerics.

( Solver was included because of his acclaimed work on strategy and guide re CTP2)

‘Sod’em, Don’t look back’ ( A Sodom and Gomorrah and the instruction to Lot’s wife.
…………….Instantly he and his bike were turned into a monument of salt.

The pillar of salt relates to Tuberski presumably being a Mormon and being in Salt lake city. A fitting death I thought.

                  Whoha (Sylvère Maes) death

It looked like he was praying on his bike

                  Stage 4 SMAC – . Worm Diet

A reference to the Diet of Worms the famous Lutheran association.

But first some lunch. There was a choice of juice, soup, loaves, and fishes, salad, tomatoes, trance tablets, fruit and spam. Who would say ‘loaves and fishes’, these days. This is a reference to the famous Christian miracle – again a religious reference.

Sister Miriam – religious Believers reference.

(Btw Bernard retorted, ‘ Miguel , Remember me’ know my name? This was an attempt to mislead. Miguel being Adagio and Bernard’s nickname ‘The Badger’)

Up sprang a demon mindworm ….

Dios Mio’, Consumed by self doubt

                  Nikolai/ Bjarne references

                  Stage 2 Civ Conquests

There was a choice of porridge, cereal, juice, bacon, sausage, kipper, scrambled egg, ham, cheese, pancakes, pastry and croissants. Bernard Hinault was as aggressive as ever, helped by that hearty energy fuelled breakfast; yet it was missing something but he couldn’t tell what. It was missing the word Danish before pastry.

The first of the math clues …

It would in total be a 157.6km run through the landscape of Civ3 Conquests and take approximately 4 hr 20 minutes.
Add 1576 + 420 = 1996. This was the year Bjarne Riis won the Tour de France.

Also I started to mention percentages (in and around the 60% mark) more frequently. Bjarne Riis acquired the nickname of Mr. 60%. The 60% is an allusion to a high hematocrit (red blood cell) level, an indication of EPO usage.

Bjarne Riis …… and was keeping pace with Greg and ahem, Joane Somarriba’s girls. His heart was in some shape (ref Valentine) throbbing faster than normal.

                  Stage 3 CTP2

                  Maths
First the riders have to construct the roads themselves through dedicating 60% of Public Works to this end and around 80% of Public Works for the roads through the mountains.

In total, the distance, including the mountain section, is 156.6 km and should take around 4hr 30 minutes. 1566+ 430 = 1996

At this stage Louison Bobet was Nowhere to be seen. In fact he was in the ass whole of Nowhere. No mans land. To be or not to be. (the first reference to Hamlet, of Denmark )

                  Whoha (Sylvère Maes) death

Just another another 60 metres to go

                  Stage 4 – Worm Diet

                  Maths

It would be a 154.6km run through the landscape of SMAC and take approximately 4 hr 50 minute. 1546 + 450 = 1996

It was designed on a small planet, mountainous, 60% ocean,

‘To be or not to be’ that was now the question. And the answer was, not to be.

The second reference to Hamlet and Denmark

However it was also designed to mislead people into associating it with Adagio
                  (Miguel).

Unfortunately that little ruse didn’t work

Fantastic clues, but shouldn't these be 1576 + 260, 1566 + 270 and 1546 + 290, which all add up to 1836 - which may or may not be a famous year in Danish history.
