  • 2 Months of WWII Online for Free!

    Hey,

This game has never gotten much appreciation from you lot, but I figure I'd offer this up to any and all takers. I currently subscribe to this game, and they are running a promotion where I can send a free 2 months of subscription to as many people as I like.

Here is the game in a very small nutshell:

WWII Online: Battleground Europe is the ultimate PvP MMOG in a combined arms simulation set in a relentless, action-packed 3D environment where players can command and crew a variety of accurately modeled vehicles, naval vessels, and aircraft; or sling weapons and fight as a foot soldier with and against thousands of other players.

    - Thousands of online players sharing a single world
    - Full PvP
    - First person perspective in all gameplay
    - Huge game world measuring more than 350,000 square miles
    - Multiple military career paths in the Army, Air Force and Navy of the United Kingdom, France, and Germany
    - Strategic systems driven by player missions and command
    - Growing list of 90+ historically accurate weapons including aircraft, tanks, trucks, rifles, machine guns and more!
    - Groundbreaking physics and damage modeling

WWII Online Wiki - Great to read about the game, its relatively new so it inst complete yet.
WWII Online Homepage- You can see the area of the Low Countries that we fight on, plus the map is interactive where you can check the ownership of all 495 towns ingame.

It doesn't have flashy graphics, but it has some great realism in modeling and physics. The combat is like no other game out there, its the hardest PvP going online. Its a flight sim, a tank sim, a first person shooter and a naval sim all in one game, all fighting each other on one huge map with no loading zones etc. You'll need a really good machine to play, as this game is running on an outdated game engine the company made when the game was released years ago. Its not some kind of new snazzy Quake7 type of thing. Plus, the view distance is out to 6 kilometers, so theres a ton to be rendering on your rig.

The game is really for WWII buffs and simulation players. ADD bf1942 types wont be into it.

So if you have questions, go ahead and ask, or if you'd like to try it out put your email in the thread or send me a pm and I'll kick one out to you.

Oh and play for the Germans, as we're currently getting our arses handed to us.

Sounds interesting, but the first person perspective ticks me off.

I wouldn't consider to play for anyone else.

It looks like a great idea to me a while ago. And I downloaded the client... but it also seemed like it was badish graphics and really hardcore...

          Sounds like a realistic simulation.

Sure, but I'll need your email address as I have to fill it in on the WWIIOL gift subscription page.

Yup the graphics are not its strong suit. When you've got to draw out to 6km and hundreds of units and tress up the wazoo, you can't have the gfx that come in shoebox type shooters. Really hardcore is about right too.

Here is an image that shows the 6km draw distance and the zillions of Speedtrees ingame. This is actually a shot that is supposed to show of the new dynamic lighting and weather effects. Fog & lighting is generated at random each ingame day by the server.

The Germans have won more maps in the past than the Allies, but it all really depends on the morale of the players. Its amazing to read the forums and see people start to get down after the fall of Antwerp or Brussels. Sometimes the winning side gets complacent and the the losing side gets a chance to come all the way back from certain defeat to win. Its fun.

If I get a decent amount of time on my hands I would play it.

Right on, let me know Jon Miller. You have till February 1st to redeem the card, so I can send it to you and you can use it or not, if you like. Here are a couple more recent sceenshots... they really are working on the gfx, as most peple complain about that. They have a new rendering routine that should be in place in the next month or two wheich will boost everyones fps, and allows the company to further improve the gfx. We now have normal mapping on our weapons and the buildings. Most of the old 2D flat buildings are gone in exchange for these really nice 3d ones.

And there arent too many games out there where you can board a ju-52 or C47 and be flown 50+ km away from the airfield to drop on an unsuspecting town, or secure a crossroads for the armour etc. Heres a German para scoping out the scene.

One of my favourite things to do is to board a ju52 at Reims, France and fly some of my squadmates down to the Alps. Yes, the Alps are modeled realisticly (using terrain elevation data) and you can fly right over to Mt. Blanc and drop your paras onto the peak. I have even managed to land a ju52 up there (with a ton of difficulty might I add).

The map is 1/2 scale, such that if it is 100km from Antwerp to Eindhoven.... then in the game you have to ctually travel 50km. Grognard dorks like myself love this stuff.

I had a good time playing this game back in the day. I would love to see what they've done with it (the alps!? ) but alas, I have something resembling what is often refered to as "a life" now.

Heh, the Alps have always been there, and mind you theres nothing there except terrain. Its just fun to go exploring now and then. You're right though, it does suck life away.
