Civ IV is the game I've played the most in 2006, most games this year are just your typical 2-weeks games... after 2 weeks you go back civ'ing
      Same here.

Warlords is definatly one of the top ten computer games of 2006.

Lists of game of the year from popular game sites/magazines are becoming pretty much irrelevant to me. They are mostly dominated by console games(and i find those mostly very unsatisfying) and marketing spin.
Also games of the last few years seem to have less 'must haveness' about them to me - maybe all the hype and dissapointment is starting to have an effect on me?

My personal list of interesting games found/played this year:

        Mainstream - released 2006:

        1. Medeival II - although i have it i havent played yet, but if it installs ok for me i know it would feature.

2.GalcivII - although strangely still not the perfect 4x space strat game, and i don't exactly know why?

3.Football Manager 2007 - seems to be better balanced in the 'role play' bits of the game now(your dealings with the player bits).

Warlords would also get a mention, but i dont have it yet!

        Indie - released 2006 ish:

        1. Darwinia - love the retro feel. simple but fun and also 'cool'.
        2. Defcon - only played the demo, but i like what i see(loved the old 'war games' movie also) - will buy.
        3. Crown of Glory - very complex war game.

Old games first played this year:

        1. Sword of the Samurai - great fun ancient classic strat game by microprose.
        2. The Longest Journey - old but new to me, a truely excellent point+click adventure game that guys or gals can enjoy.

Probably because you don't play RTS. Though apparently it's supposed to be amazing.

Yeah it got a lot of exposure and interest in RTS circles. I'm even considering playing it.

I do play RTS. I think Standup is right, I probably did see some screen of it somewhere and dismissed it as another WW2 game, which have gotten boring fast, especially after Call of Duty.

Company of Heroes is excellent, especially multiplayer. If you don't like WW2 then get Dawn of War and its expansion. Similar game, different setting.

Goddamn that game! It is NOT that good!

(I fume at the overhyping it receives, not at you).

If Warlords weren't an expansion pack, I'd call it game of the year. But it is really not a game on its own.

                          Time chose Wii Sports #1

I really haven't played enough new games this year, mostly just civ4. liked Oblivion, but got burned out by it months ago.

                              9. Civilization IV.
                              10. Civilization IV.

I honestly do not understand how people find time to play anything else. Okay, I did play Fire Emblem as well, but that was during lunch breaks.

I might move onto Warlords sometime in 2008, otherwise I can't really see myself playing anything else for awhile.
I agree, I bought Oblivion and NWN2, but I still play civ4 all the time. Although in the case of Oblivion I didn't like the game. I didn't care for NWN2 that much either (the game is just too slow on my comp)
