I don't know why Malfador launched this game so early. All I've ever heard was they were shooting for a December '06 release. Wonder if the publishers got worried because of the several other space 4x type games being released these days!

I just bought it, and have been playing the series since SEII 12 years ago, and I say as of right now leave the thing alone. It is horrible.
It is like Aaron Hall decided to fix everything that wasn't broke.
And why is it once again a game developer decides to abandon 2d play for 3d no matter how piggish that 3d is? I feel like I am playing a game trapped in a 4 year olds coloring book."The DPRK is still in a state of war with the U.S. It's called a black out." - Che explaining why orbital nightime pictures of NK show few lights. Seriously.

My interested was piqued by this thread, so I downloaded the demo, and all of the above is also true, despite the fact that I have never played any of the previous SE games.
There is a brilliant idea in there somewhere (perhaps in an earlier game), but this game is a bit sucky, and the combat in "3D" is an absolute joke. The "Ancient race" trait is a game-breaker, there are far too many ways of getting to a single screen beyond the obvious, the obvious is rarely the way of getting to an important screen that you will need a lot, and the combat has what I can only call the "spearman quality", especially after I decided that one fight was impossible for me and used the stupid 3D screen to leg it in the opposite direction, after which I found that my successful flight had damaged the more powerful enemy ship's shields a lot more than mine.
As I said before, this is potentially wonderful but actually rubbish.

Hmm - I have just gotten this one, as for some reason my GalCiv 2 DA has stopped working. Well it works, but crashes every third or fourth turn Some sound related issue that is difficult to pin down.
Anyway. I am now playing SE V until I get the other one sorted out.
OK game, I guess, but nothing to cheer about. Like the planet management. Like the research. Ship design/management is a pain in the butt. But I am hanging in...so far.
AsmodeanIm not sure what Baruk Khazad is , but if they speak Judeo-Dwarvish, that would be "blessed are the dwarves" - lord of the mark

Well from my POV: If it's a space 4X, it can't be completely dull. I still have mixed feelings about this one though.
On the upside, GalCiv 2 DA 1.7 beta is going live today, so maybe that will come to my rescue.
I have a crappy feeling that I am going to have to get a new sound card though. Not that a sound card is expensive, but I really shouldn't have to It works with everything else.

I had crashing problems with DA, thought it was the sound card, but it were the video. We're sorry, the voices in my head are not available at this time. Please try back again soon.
