Is it true that SEV uses Starforce? That rumor I heard was enough for me to stay away.
signature not visible until patch comes out.

I only have the demo, but I can say with certainty that the demo does not use starforce.

Why would a demo use starforce?

I think some have, at least City Life did. Probably just laziness on the developers' part.

            Some demos have, oddly enough.

Yes, it was after playing a demo with starforce that I got the removal tool.

There are some stability issues not letting me finish the game, but it is "more of the same" game in overall. The AI is weird a little, and limited range of the scanners is annoying a little.

The game is Steam protected. At least the downloadable Steam version.

Didn't like Steam, I brought my copy at EB. Steam wanted me to load a client then I could only get game patches from them.

I'm up to turn 30. I'm still expanding and it is still very slow going. No contact or combat yet.

Reading fansites. Looks like the game will be greate after about ten more patches. Now it's too buggy, unbalanced, annoying.

I haven't gotten far enough to notice if its buggy or unbalanced but it sure is annoying.

That is not a good analogy. MOO3 completely tossed out the game model from MOO2 and started from scratch. SE5 uses the same game model as SE4 but adds some tweaks and new graphics. Furthermore, MOO3 was completely unintuitive and a headache to play whereas SE5 while complex is fun to play.

Oh yeah? Well... ok then. But I need to play the demo more before I buy, mostly because I've heard so many complaints from fans.

Both are complex and unintuitive. SE5 is also more time consuming. It takes more clicks to do the same tasks than in SE4. Like MOO3, it is a struggle to even finish a game. I haven't even finished the 100 turn demo yet let alone a regular game. Still, I prefer SE5 over MOO3 because like you say you can still see and feel SE4 hiding under the hood.

hmm yet another pc game that could have done with some more QA testing?

I'm still interested in this title(purely on the streangth of the series and the publishers record with patching problems), but will wait for the patches to start flowing i think.

Gamespot review is correct. The list of features is long, but the list of bugs is much longer. I guess they are right giving it 66%. It will become better with patches, but unfair publishers must be punished for releasing unstable games.
