Definitely one game I won't be buying. I have a general objection to it being more of a large mod for BF2 than a new game (and this is some very obvious cash-cow milking here), but that advertising method convinced me not to buy any games that might include it. In-game ads that come from separate servers, to the effect of collecting data from my PC (BTW, saying IPs are anonymous information is some awesome BS there), and definitely slowing the game down by downloads from other servers.

I hope EA goes bankrupt one day .

Well Ive been struggling to get on the big ranked servers in bf2, I guess they have gone over to bf2142.

EA will have access to our IP anyway when we connect to their account server to login, right?

It's a matter of principle. EA has your IP when you log in, and the server you play on has your IP while you play. I would never have a problem with that because these are technically required. In order for you to play any game on a MP server, the MP server has to know your IP.

However, what you have here is your IP going out to a third party, which is an advertising party. They'll probably use these IPs not only as a method of "tracking habits", as they call it, but also as a matter of getting more accurate advertisements. Determining the country from an IP address is usually trivial - and then this excellent game could give US players US-specific ads, French players ads of white flags, and so on .

I guess I dont see how this is any different to websites such as this one providing location targetted advertising.

Well I went and got it anyway, 64 player battles are fast and frantic.

There seem to be plenty of players being teamkill punish *******s, lying in front of your car or standing in front of your walker legs if you get there first. I stay still then try to reverse but I still end up killing them, what a pain in the bum

The problem isn't unique to BF2142; it's quite endemic to any game that allows punishment of TKs. There's always some whiny baby who wants that vehicle. Some of them are teamkillers, who'll toss C4 all over the chopper because you got there first, while the others arrange so you run them over and then punish you for it. At least they finally removed the teamkilling aspect from the artillery barrage; there's always some moron who's going to run into the artillery strike he just requested the commander drop.

I made it a point when the first team based FPS games came out never to play with pick ups, and my brief lapses have never given me cause to change my mind.

I like playing as a team, but its rare in battlefield and the developers try to encourage team play with squad bonuses and so on.

It just frustrates me when I lose the xp I just gained doing some ninja move with a transport because some guy cant wait for the vehicle to fully stop before he jumps out. Of course its my fault the hover transports dont have brakes and I get punished.

Im enjoying the game, the titan fights remind me of infantry - the levels where you can set up turrets to defend yourself in buildings as you try to defend the flags.

I got the silver assault badge and got 500 points for it thats more than enough xp to get me another unlock at my level

Some of poly's ads do this.

I've been playing 2142 very regularly since release, and I haven't even noticed a single in-game ad or any odd behaviours (slowdowns, etc.) on my system.

Seriously.. there are ads in the game? I don't know. (But I've been wanting to buy this particular brand of laundry detergent lately... )

Ive not noticed any proper ads, but I have noticed plenty of billboards with in character advertising. I dont mind this as it kind of adds to the atmosphere, although Im not sure why the PAC have advertising recruitment boards up in in EU land.

got bored of this game pretty quick

replay value isn't above mediocre in mp, I don't recommend that any of you buys it.
