Played this pretty intensively from time to time.
Went back with a couple of friends when 1.10 came back and made a run.
Was 39th Necro on the USEast Hardcore ladder at lvl 89.

Then participated in some SP tourneys of diabloii.net
There's some very interesting stuff there, where say you play hardcore and have restrictions like not being able to use shops or go back to town or use items or whatever, and you record your progress and everybody discusses it.
    Was pretty fun.

Played only hardcore after 1.10 came out because once you go hardcore, it's hard to go back.

When you play HC, everything is important.
My friends and I still mention some of the memorable deaths we had, and that was like 2 years ago.

I'm actually in the mood to play Diablo 1 again. . I wonder how it will play on a fast computer.

I'd have to play single player. Though I'd imagine there might still be some multiplayer servers. But they are full of cheaters.

Wait I still have Wer'ts leg. Maybe you can take it to Tristan for him.

I actually tried D1 again some time ago.
Maybe that's just my opinion but it has aged a lot more than D2.
D2 is still way playable, D1 is too slow in many regards.

How about trying Titan's Quest instead? It's the same game, but better (meaning better gfx, better sound, more beautiful environment etc)

I played Diablo I or II for some time, but I can't understand what people liked about it so much. It's cool whacking enemies, but after a while it gets a bit tedious, always hacking away (with an identical animation of your character), always finding the same kind of treasure, but no "content". No mission that truly instigated the player to go and have some adventures...

So I wonder, is the attraction really all about finding better and more powerful set items?

Set items don't really come into play for SP players, they won't get them and by the time you get deep into hell you have better things (rare and uniques),

I can't speak to Titans, it may be great, but millions played and still play DiabloII.

DiabloII was the epitome of hacknslash, IMO. Played that from the day it came out through 1.09, then briefly again with 1.10.

Hardcore ironman is the only way to play.

Read a bit about Titan's Quest.
Seems it has almostno replayability, completly determined, linear maps etc...

never even heard about Titan's quest. Maybe I'll check it out. Most Diablo clones have sucked real bad. Though I never tried divinity.

Sacred was good, but a bit short.

Are you serious? I spent almost two weeks of playing time just getting to the desert outpost where you run into that first dragon.
My stat for the proportion of the world explored was about 10% ...

darn. I was going to suggest that.

If it's a single player game, I will take my time exploring. I don't race through games.

ravagon, the story itself is short, the land area quite large I agree, but once I had travelled everywhere, it didnt "feel" large after that. Not sure why.
