I'm not sure if I can play it at this point. . The graphics have to look a bit dated. And I really dislike the way people play. Too much power gaming. I just want to have fun.

You should make a werebear assassin, clearly. It can have the fastest attack rate in the game at two frames per attack. May not sound much better than 3 frames of other fast attackers, but it is a 50% increase.

Diablo2 intrigues me a lot, as it's the only really big MP game in any genre I never got around to playing. I think it's too late now, but every now and again when a thread comes up I ask a few questions.

About the MP ladder option, how does this work? I'm guessing you play through the campaign with other people. However, the levels go to 99, which is probably higher than in the campaign. So what happens when you've done the campaign on one character?

                  Nightmare then hell difficulties.

And they can be nasty, though unless you play hardcore it doesn't really matter.

Normal is a cakewalk, the real game starts in nightmare.

the thing is the campaign can get pretty generic. You won't reach 99 doing just 3 runs through the game (normal, nightmare, and hell difficulties). It involves a lot of repetitive monster bashing.

I never made it past 48 myself. Just grew bored of it. My most fun came from levels 10 through 35.

The same thing you've been doing the whole time - endlessly killing **** in hopes of finding better items.

But how can you replay the same material when you are a much higher level? Does it scale the badguys?

Yes they will be tougher in NM and even tougher in Hell. Your char will have his resistance reduce in NM and further reduced in Hell.

This makes him vulnerable. The monsters are harder to kill because they will tend to get more traits. In NM you start to run into immunes.

In Hell they often will have 2 immunes. The monster that was a snap in normal is now 35 or 70 levels above what you first saw it. It may have immunities as well.

When you go into Hell you tend to be at levels lower than most of the monster, until you can get into the 80's. This means they are harder to hit.

Beleive me, if you found normal fun and you will, going through the same lands in NM will still be exciting. Oh and a lot more dangerous.

It is not hard to get through normal without dying, but tricky to get through NM and nearly impossible in Hell. Of course for new players, I would expect them to die in normal some as they will not know the game well.

One tends to get hooked on the idea of getting another promotion and more skills and looking for better items. Now it can become a drag at times, usually when the going gets very tough.

I have played SP in all three levels in all acts, cows included with each class. So that is a lot of repetive play, but I still had fun.

You can still come back later to take some char and focus on a different skill set. I did a werewolf, but I could try a werebear next time. Many char could have 4 or 5 different playing styles.

i know. i've got my tank barbarian, and i'm considering a battle orders lad, strictly for MP.

                              Ah, that helps.

What's the MP aspect though? Can you play through with other people without trivialising the difficulty?

I also see there is a ladder. How do you have a ladder for an RPG?
