  • It could be SR but the majority of people I play with (and Im in THE Biggest guild in Vanguard right now) have absoulutely no problems. At least not like you are describing.

    • Played to the 10th crash today. 3 hours. Gained almost a level. Completed many quests. Died once because of own fault and 4 or 5 times because of crashes. This is not fun. I cancelled my account. Should the crashes cease before the month expires (I will keep trying), I will renew it, otherwise Vanguard is history for me.

Now for the rest of the day back to quality games that don't crash. Like Civ4, HoI2, EU3 and pretty much every other.

The days before I had played "to the third crash" which never lasted longer than 15 minutes. It still crashes sometimes, which gets me killed and/or dropped out of good groups (like last time deep in the Rindol Storehouse, which really got me pissed), but I have the hope it's getting better.

I still don't know if I'll be able to play it for long, I'm pretty much forcing myself to load it up despite of all the frustrations about bugs and crashes, but I have the hope that it's getting better. My opinion is, that it has potential to become a good game, but it isn't finished by a very long shot. I still hesitate to recommend it to people who haven't been committed to the game for as long as I do.
So in spite of all the above you are still trying to play.

Yes, but nobody here gives a **** about your opinion, so go troll some Mac users.

EDIT: Oh, and credits to you for your copycat thread in the OT!

              • Oh come on you can't seriously compare me with Asher just because I rib you a bit from time to time.

Rah should've locked the other thread, mine was way better.

I would give you that, had you written something intelligent. But to ask why I keep trying despite of my problems I can either answer "D'oh! Because otherwise I wouldn't know if the crashes persist" (that would be feeding), or as in Ashers case just call the troll and send you along.

                      • I seem to slowly tackle where the problem is at, by the way. My memory sticks are getting freaking hot when I am playing, because they are located next to the graphics adapter. When I just run a memory test, as I did numerous times (without finding a single error), nothing happens, because the graphics card has nothing to do and doesn't heat up as much. I removed one of the sticks (the one next to the card) and the game ran smoothly for 3 hours without a single crash. That may be, may be not the reason, time will tell. It's not a permanent solution, though, as the loss of memory really feels.

If it is the reason, there's unfortunately not much I can do. It's just the way the board is constructed; I have only that one slot for my graphics adapter, so can't move it farther. An additional fan may give some relief, but the computer is open anyway, so my hopes aren't too high.

                        • Hmmm - is there a reason for that configuration? It seems like sloppy motherboard design.

                          • May be. It's a 3 years old motherboard, while the graphics card is almost new. They might not have been counting on cards THAT hot.

I've never seen a board where the graphics card can overheat the RAM! Just checked my board and the main heatsink is about 2 inches away and off to one side, and the fan spits hot air in the opposite direction entirely. Is this some German innovation?

And do you have a view as to why the other games you are playing aren't affected? Perhaps they are just much less resource intensive......I seem to recall you did mention some problems with NWN2 as well.
