    • I suspect user error.

      • It crashed a lot before I even could use it, for instance when it was loading or on my very first step. Also, it crashed to desktop (no lock, no reboot), so it's less likely a hardware or driver issue. Even more since my computer memory is now repaired and I updated every damn driver; again, as I have done the same procedure with NWN2. My computer is a POS, some time this or next year I'll have to build a new rig.

I guess at the moment it doesn't really matter. I'd have to force myself to play it, which is not how I want to provide my free time. It's not the game (it seems to be ok according to what I hear), I'm just not in MMOG mood.

        • I am playing it. Enjoying myself immensely.

          No crashes whatsoever.

            • What servers are you folks on, by the way? Not that I'm planning to play soon (shut the hell up Spikey, will ya? ), I'm just curious. I created my characters on the English EU server, starts with G...; Gel... Gal... can't for the love of god remember the full name now but there was only one.

I have no need to comment - I shall just bask in how right I am again.

                • Technically I don't play yet. And even if I decide to do it, or better, if some wonder makes me able to stomach an online game right now, it still would be covered by the disclaimer I made. Doesn't look like it, though. I played HoI2 until now this evening and will be firing up EU3 now. After this I may look into VG briefly (God willing, or rather PC willing ), but that'll likely be a ten minutes show, as always. Log in, patch up, load, crash, and done. I'm really trying hard to make you triumph, but somehow it doesn't work.

Gelenia - and yes...I am on that server.

On the contrary my triumph grows with every post.

                          • I managed to play Vanguard in the last 2 days about 2-3 hours each, with a bit lesser crashing and thus, more fun. The days before I had played "to the third crash" which never lasted longer than 15 minutes. It still crashes sometimes, which gets me killed and/or dropped out of good groups (like last time deep in the Rindol Storehouse, which really got me pissed), but I have the hope it's getting better.

I still don't know if I'll be able to play it for long, I'm pretty much forcing myself to load it up despite of all the frustrations about bugs and crashes, but I have the hope that it's getting better. My opinion is, that it has potential to become a good game, but it isn't finished by a very long shot. I still hesitate to recommend it to people who haven't been committed to the game for as long as I do.

In GW Prophecies I was at the level cap after a week, was through the whole campaign after two and had all spells and abilities including elites for my primary and secondary classes after four. In EQ2 I had a level 20 ten days after launch and was a guild officer and co-founder. In VG after the same time I have a mighty level 8 and know nobody yet. I'm still not back to my usual way to play MMOGs (i.e. 50+ hours per week), but I'm positive I can handle about 10 hours per week on the long run.

                            • Not sure why you would be having all those crashes, Ralphie.

The client functions flawlessly on my machine (which by no means is a super machine).

Oh well...I hope you can enjoy the game regardless. It is still a bit unpolished, but has great potential.

                              • The worst thing is, I didn't have a problem throughout the beta. It crashed too, perhaps once in 5-10 hours (or let's say once in 2-3 days), but that happened to all and wasn't as much of a problem as it is now. Also, I didn't change anything on my computer in the last days, but the crashes became less with just the game's patches.

I'm pretty positive it is not my computer this time. My problems with NWN2 were botched installations due to CRC errors, which can be explained with the bad memory stick I had. But that memory is now fixed and cross-checked. Hardware and driver problems tend to reboot the computer (the dreaded "STOP fault"), but VG doesn't reboot the PC, it instantly drops to desktop. This looks suspiciously like an "Abnormal program termination" (I think being a developer myself I can judge this). Those are in most cases a programming error.
